kill us, to stop us from getting to Little Light!

Bakkar, help me!

“Dr. Mytari, no!” I hear the other yell, but they are too late. They will not kill me today, I have defeated more than them. Roaring again, I lower my head and charge. My body moves smoothly, fluidly, faster than it has in so long. The pain retreats, my constant companion is gone, but I don’t have time to consider it as the blue Totiv turns towards me with the weapon and tries to take aim.

Grabbing his small body, I toss him away, and I hear the crunch as he hits the wall as I turn to the other blue Totiv, who is rapidly talking into a device mounted on his shoulder. No, he’s calling for reinforcements, for the vekking Yarek to come and get me!

I rush him as well, using my body to ram him into the wall, crushing him into it hard. It dents, and his eyes drift shut as he slides down the white wall to the floor where he collapses into a broken, unmoving heap.

Turning my head, I spot the other Totiv struggling to get up, so I prowl over, ready to end him, to kill him for hurting me and my little light. For taking her away from me.

But I feel something…

Something tugging me.

Something pulls me back as I stand above him with clenched fists, ready to rip him to pieces.

Little Light!

She reaches for me, calling my name. I swing my head around, and my eyes lock on the door separating her from me. The red lights still flash, the blarens wailing, but none of it matters except her.

I let my feral side take over as I slam my fists through the door and rip the metal open with a screech. My blood covers my hands now as the pain flares back up, only enraging me further. Rushing into the hallway, I look about desperately, searching for her.

There!

I turn and hurry towards where I feel her, and with each step she draws closer, her light piercing that darkness surrounding me, trying to claim me.

Little Light, I am coming. Little Light, stop the darkness, please…

I slide past a door but freeze, the light pulling me back. Spinning with a growl, I smash into the door with my body, but it doesn’t even dent. Vekk! Another roar bursts from my throat as panic and instinct control me. I can feel my sanity trying to break through, but we are too strong. Too lost.

Without her.

Smashing my fists into the door, I scream for her as I rip through the metal until it slides open with a beep, and there she is. I lunge inside and freeze, breathing heavily as blood drips down my fingers to the floor.

Panting, I stare at my little light. For just a moment, she pierces the darkness shrouding my mind as she watches me and calls my name before she begins to struggle with some material on her lower half. I sniff, unable to help it, and I notice the air smells sweet…like her. It wafts from her, mixed with the scent of my elons, almost making me roar once again.

I can’t even focus on my elons, who I know are in the room. Only her. Her soft, pale flesh is on display, and two large mounds on her chest jiggle as she jumps, pulling something white up her toned legs. But then the sanity is gone, and I’m back in the dark.

She struggles into something covering her mounds, and I can’t help myself. I storm across the room and swing her into my arms. She laughs as she softens and strokes my face. Closing my eyes, I push desperately into her hand.

“Little Light,” I croak. “You were gone… They took you.”

“Shush,” she whispers. “No one took me, no one ever could. I am yours, remember, warrior? Stay calm now, breathe with me.”

She grabs my hand and presses it to her chest above the covering, my huge, scarred green one so dark against hers… Then I feel it. The beating of her heart. Our gazes lock, and she presses her forehead to mine, the rest of the world disappearing into those grey depths. “Feel it beat, slow yours until it matches, breathe with me…”

I slow my breathing and feel my heart slow as well, matching the steady beat of hers. She smiles at me proudly. “There you are, warrior. I’m here, I’m here,” she repeats, until I sit on the bed with her
