Gravity (Greenford #2) - Romeo Alexander Page 0,65

pieces, Samuel would have been sorely tempted to strangle him.

“Thank you,” Samuel said in a sudden flash of seriousness. “Not for the cake, fuck you for that. But thank you for sending me to her. It was exactly what I needed.”

Lucas’s smile softened. “Of course. I’m just glad she was able to help. It’s nice, you know? Seeing you happy, like, really happy.”

Samuel nodded. “And it’s nice being happy.”

Lucas’s eyes darted over Samuel’s shoulder. “Speaking of…”

Samuel turned in time to see Caleb walk up to their table and stop short when he saw the half-finished meals and the box sitting before Samuel. A smile spread over Samuel’s face at the sight of his boyfriend, especially when his brow knitted together into a familiar frown of thought.

“Oh,” Caleb said finally, wincing. “Sorry. I thought you guys would be done by now. I can come back later to pick Sam up.”

Lucas shook his head. “We’ve been here long enough, I think. And I should get back to the office anyway.”

“Yes, you should,” Samuel told him. “Fuck you for the cake. And text me later. I want to hear more about this new girlfriend of yours.”

“Nosy,” Lucas called to him over his shoulder.

“Pot meet kettle!” Samuel snapped back at him.

Caleb, however, leaned over to peer at the box. “Ooh, cake?”

“Seriously? Did you read it?” Samuel asked.

“Yes, I did. But, babe, cake.”

“Really, Caleb?”

“Oh,” Caleb wrinkled his nose. “Never mind. I can see coconut in the frosting.”

Samuel perked up at that. “Ooh, coconut? I take back what I said, he’s forgiven.”

Caleb chuckled. “You’re so easy to please sometimes.”

Which the man just had to go and prove by planting a kiss on Samuel’s temple gently, knowing it would produce a happy hum. Though the fingers massaging their way into his neck were also distracting, they didn’t stop Samuel from opening the box to treat himself to the cake.

“I didn’t say stop,” Samuel warned him when Caleb seemed ready to draw his hand away.

“Demanding,” Caleb noted, but Samuel could hear the smile in his voice as he sat down beside him.

Samuel only gave another contented sigh, pressing his leg against one of Caleb’s when the other man got comfortable. He barely noticed himself doing it and might not have if it wasn’t for the cake and its message sitting before him to serve as a reminder of the progress he had made.

It was mostly in the little things, the little touches shared between them. That had started slow, Caleb’s hand on his lower back, a knee pressed to another, the soft caress of his boyfriend’s fingers when Caleb thought he was asleep. They had always been comfortable with kissing, hugging, and of course, fucking, but with time, Samuel had grown to love the brief moments where their skin would touch, signaling warmth and affection, a way to say ‘I’m still here’ between them.

“Lost in the forest or in the cake?” Caleb asked, pulling Samuel from his thoughts.

Samuel laughed, laying his head briefly on Caleb’s shoulder and giving him a nudge. “Forest. But the good kind, sunny and warm.”

Caleb hummed happily, fingers tracing over Samuel’s shoulders. “Good.”

It was the shorthand they had developed early on. In the beginning, especially, there had been days where Samuel would find himself lost in his darker thoughts. At those times, it wasn’t always easy to express what was going on, proverbially lost in the dark woods as he was. So rather than explain, he would simply describe the mental trail he was walking down.

It hadn’t always been easy on them, and there had been more than a few arguments and moments of extreme frustration along the way. But bit by bit, they’d learned how to work with one another. Samuel learned when he truly needed to have space, and Caleb learned to let it happen. Samuel learned how to express himself freely and openly, and Caleb learned when to pull it from him, gently but firmly.

Samuel had called it a dance. Caleb had called it gravity.

He turned to look at Caleb, smiling softly. “So, not to be pushy, but have you thought about my idea?”

Caleb returned his smile. “I have.”

Samuel leaned closer, breathing deeply of the cologne he loved so much. “And?”

“And...are you sure?”

There was no hesitation. “Absolutely.”

Caleb took hold of Samuel’s hand. Using his thumb he traced around his knuckles. “Well, I’m glad I went month to month then. Because after next month, I can move in with you without having to fork over an unnecessary fee.”

Samuel grinned at that. “Yeah?”

Caleb beamed back at him. “Absolutely.”

Samuel leaned in, pressing their lips together as he gave a soft cry of victory and joy. Caleb laughed against his lips before returning the kiss, his strong fingers curling around the back of Samuel’s neck and feeling like home.

He didn’t know if it was gravity, persistence, or just fate, all he knew was that he never wanted to let it go again.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that the guy was sex on legs.
