miss him, Halo. He made me laugh, he made me forget for awhile how awful people can be. In his arms I felt safe and cared for and protected. I can’t explain it. Something about him calls to me.” Gracie flopped backwards on the couch and stared at the ceiling.
“You are safe, now. You are cared for, by me. You have the training to break the balls of half a dozen men and feed them their own dicks. Which, by the way, is not something I want to ever witness again. Next time can we kill them and let them rot where they drop?”
Gracie looked over to see Halo cupping his hand over the front of his jeans. “Oh, don’t be a big baby. No one is taking your dick and feeding it to you. Besides, those men deserved it after what we found.”
“I agree, but still, my dick was sympathetic. Hard to finish a mission when my hand wants to protect the treasure.” Halo told her.
“Don’t watch next time. What do you think he meant he is too broken?” Gracie turned her head to stare at the ceiling again.
Halo rolled his eyes before answering her. “I don’t know. Maybe if you could have gotten any information from him about his past we wouldn’t be playing guessing games. He is still texting you. Maybe you shouldn’t give up. It isn’t like he walked away and ghosted you.”
“He might as well have for all the good the text messages are doing me. I miss him, Halo. I really hoped this time, maybe I would get to be happy.”
Halo glanced at the screen in front of him. He had started the morning playing back the recordings from the night before although he didn’t think they would find out the reason Hendrix broke off things through drone recordings. His eyes widened at the sight on the screen and he darted a quick glance toward Gracie before turning back to the recording. His voice, when he spoke, was shaky and slightly higher pitched than normal.
“Um, Gracie, love, girlfriend, how much do you know about Hendrix? I mean, really know about him? Not his past, his present.”
“He makes me smile. He makes me laugh. He is the best lover the universe has ever created. He hates a liar. He—.”
“No, stop. I don’t care about all that, I mean, uh, what I mean is, I—. You know what, I don’t think I know, maybe I need to lay down for awhile. Yeah, I should probably go lay down.” Halo held the water bottle up and titled it before shaking it. “You didn’t drug my water did you?”
Gracie propped one elbow under her chin and stared at her partner. “What is the matter with you? I wouldn’t drug your water. I would never do something like that to you. I mean, I probably wouldn’t.
“Probably? Seriously? You have to think about it and qualify it with a probably?”
Gracie shrugged. “Well, think about it. What if something happened and I needed to drug you for your own good? Don’t you think I love you enough to drug you for your own good?”
Disbelief filled his face. “You know you need help, right? I love you, you know I do, but you aren’t right in the head.”
“Life sucks. I don’t need help. I need other people to stop being evil and stupid. And Hendrix, I need him.”
Halo shook his head, “No, you don’t need him, you want him. Big difference. And quit changing the subject, you would drug me, for real?”
“I mean, if I had to, for your own good of course.”
“Tell me again why in the hell we are friends?” Halo asked.
“Cause I am the only one who can put up with you for more than ten minutes?”
“Take that back!”
Gracie laughed and held her hands up. “Alright, I take it back. Everyone loves you.”
“Hendrix doesn’t.” Halo’s voice was mournful as he played back the recent events. He was a bit worried that the problem with Hendrix and Gracie was because of him. Some men could not handle his flamboyant nature and Hendrix was one of those men. Oh, the man could say he wasn’t bothered, but Halo knew better. Maybe if he hadn’t hit on the man one night when he was drunk. But what was done was done and he couldn’t take back the past. Hendrix knew he and Gracie were a package deal. They had been through too much together over the years to turn their backs on
