giggle sounded again and this time when Shiloh spoke his voice sounded aggrieved. “And that’s another thing. Amber keeps laughing at me.”
“Yeah, well mate, that is between you and Amber. If she laughs at you it has nothing to do with me.”
“It does. She knows something, you know something and neither of you will tell me. You both do understand I am the Beta of the pack and it isn’t done for the Alpha to hide things from the Beta.”
“So you keep saying.” Amber’s voice, full of laughter, sounded from behind Dylan.
“And why are you staying behind your mate?” Shiloh took a step backwards to eye Amber. “You, except for the first day when you let Dylan take the lead, have been by his side every step of the way.” His eyes narrowed as he continued, “The first day, when everyone was new and the way not exactly what anyone would call safe, you stayed back from Dylan. Hell, I didn’t even see you until my oath bound me to this pack. Now today you are again behind Dylan but not cowering. No, nor are you hiding.” His eyes widened and he let his senses open more fully to the pack bond. “You are hiding because you are bothered by another Alpha being so close to your people. You are hiding your reaction behind the Alpha.” His voice had dropped to a mere whisper, low enough not to heard by the others. “So you are worried but Dylan isn’t. Not normal.” The last two words were little more than a mutter as he turned back to watch his former Alpha just as Gammon nodded his head farewell and turned back to his truck.
What exactly do you think our new Beta is going to say when he meets Joseph for the first time? Amber asked.
I admit I am afraid to find out.

Dylan, as frequently happened when his wolf spoke, rubbed his temples and closed his eyes for a moment.
Oh, Joseph had something to say about it didn’t he? You have to tell me what he said. And somehow we have got to figure out why I can only talk to him when you shift and vice versa.
Dylan’s lips twitched and laughter filled his eyes. Shiloh watched their new pack make their way onto the plane before he turned and glared at the couple. “Something is going on and I insist, as the Beta of this pack, to be included. You both realize you can’t have a strong pack with secrets, right?”
“Oh don’t worry, mate, we don’t plan on keeping secrets. As soon as we have an available moment you will know everything.”
When will this available moment happen? We can speak as pack. We have spoken as pack. We even now speak as a pack and no one can hear the thoughts we speak. So what prevents you from telling me what is going on? Shiloh demanded through the bond.
It isn’t so simple as something I can tell you. As I told you before and doubtless will have to tell you again, I have an unusual wolf.
“Look, Dylan, you ask me to be patient but if I am not mistaken, you were the one who lacked patience when it came to making me your Beta. Everyone getting on that plane had over a week to decide to follow you. Me? I got minutes. Now don’t get me wrong, I would not give up being your Beta if given a choice. Well, can’t really. Your wolf called to mine and mine to yours and we are stuck with it. What I can’t figure out is why.”
Amber, no longer behind Dylan, rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah. We know. The whole dang pack knows, well,” she clarified, “That portion of the pack we gained while here. You haven’t been exactly quiet about the situation all week. Not since you knew who would come with us. We have told you, I told you, Dylan told you, we have explained till we are blue in the face.”
“No, you haven’t. You have explained that you couldn’t explain. I would have to wait until we returned to Australia or found an area outside of territory.” Shiloh gestured around the airfield. “Look around you. We are outside territory. We are mostly alone. The others can’t hear us now.”
“I know. But I need to shift before you understand. I told you that.” Dylan tilted his head
