out some more, but I didn't let him in the house because I figured Ryan would have some snarky comment to spoil things for me. We said goodnight and I floated off to bed.
Chapter 19
The rest of the week we hardly found time to be alone together, between both our jobs and rehearsals all of our free time was taken. Luckily it was so busy that Saturday was here before I knew it. I couldn't get out of work on Saturday, so Jon picked me up in his car to get to Spencer's house where I was going to get changed. Kate was going to do my hair and makeup, since I was hopeless at that when left to my own devices. I had already left my dress and shoes at their house so I didn't have to worry about it today. All I had to do was escape to the bathroom to get changed, as Kate didn't seem to understand I didn't want to undress right in front of her. She curled my hair in big bouncy curls, and flattened her own wavy hair to be poker straight. She went crazy with eye makeup giving us both smoky eyes, and just natural toned lips. When she was finished we checked ourselves out in her mirror.
"Kate, I do believe we have achieved gorgeousness."
"Now let's keep our fingers crossed that there will be some cute guys there."
We headed downstairs where Jon and Spencer were patiently waiting for us. They had decided on black pants, long sleeve dark blue button-down shirts and black ties, so we were all kind of matchy-matchy.
"Spencer, are you wearing makeup?"
"Only to cover the black eye," he grinned. "Kate made me beautiful. Do you like it?"
"Love it."
"Wow," Jon said as I met up with him, "You look amazing." He took my hand and kissed it and Spencer herded us into the van to head over.
We had more than an hour but the guys were nervous about setting up all the equipment and getting ready before the reception began. Since it was George's cousin getting married, they were a guy short at setup, and Kate and I were not of much use. Spencer found me a tambourine as promised, I got my microphone to the right height, and that was about all I had to do.
My feet were already killing me so I went to sit down at the closest table to wait. I never knew what a fire hall wedding meant but now it made sense, this was an extremely low budget wedding and I suddenly felt very overdressed. There were tables with paper tablecloths and folding chairs, streamers and fairy lights across the ceiling. That was about it. Not what I would consider a dream wedding at all.
Eventually George showed up and told us the ceremony just ended so people will be coming in soon. I got up and put the chair back in place and joined the others back in our little corner. George got his bass tuned up and everyone else was ready to go, now we just had to wait. People started showing up and finding their places, and soon enough George got the go ahead to make this announcement which he read off an index card.
"Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Mr. and Mrs. James Smith, as they take their first dance together as a married couple."
The bride and groom entered the room and everyone applauded. They stopped at the center of the dance floor and that was our cue to start playing their song. Kate cleared her voice and started to sing as the rest of the band joined in. About halfway through the bride and groom beckoned their guests to come out and join them on the floor. Soon there was a large crowd dancing and I was amazed with us that we were actually doing a good job at this. The first song ended and we picked up the tempo with some popular oldies as dinner was served to the guests.
The evening went by so fast; I was actually having fun in the background singing with my little tambourine. Jon was in front of me rocking out in his own world, Kate was swooning and winning over the crowd with her haunting voice, George was swaying along with the music and Spencer was a ball of energy that just would not let up. After a while some little kids came out to the dance floor and were dancing and
