Getting the Axe - Nikki Mays Page 0,62
more important to me for you to understand that I would never ask you to marry me because I felt like it was something that I had to do.” The look in his eyes is so earnest and open that I have no doubts that what he’s saying is the absolute truth. “I want, no I need you to understand that I want to marry you more than I want to take my next breath. That the thought of you being my wife fills up the coldest parts of my soul with fire. That they thought of you not being my wife makes me feel as though my world is shattering. I love you, Elle Whitman, with every part of my heart and soul. Will you do me the incredible honor of being my wife?”
I start nodding my head like a maniac. “Yes!” I hiccup through the torrential flow moving down my face.
Noah is on his feet in under a second, which is really impressive when you consider his size and scoops me up into his arms. His lips claim mine in a scorching kiss that lights my own soul on fire. I wrap my legs around his waist as his tongue slips inside my mouth to stroke against my own. I scrap my fingers against the back of his head.
I’m in such a happy lust-filled daze that I don’t even realize that he’s pulling away from me until my mouth tries to follow him.
He chuckles as I give him a pout. “Times up.” He says with a smile.
“What time?” I ask before I hear the beeping. My eyes go wide as I look into his. “Oh, that time.” I bite my bottom lip as he set me onto my feet.
He holds out his right hand and looks down at me. “You ready?”
I place my left hand in his and nod my head. “Yep.” I croak out.
“Liar.” He shakes his head while ginning. I jolt when I feel something cold touch my finger and look down to see him placing the most beautiful ring that I’ve ever seen on my finger.
“Holy crap.” I gasp. The center stone is also the biggest freaking diamond that I’ve ever seen in person.
“You ready now?”
All I can do is nod my head mutely as he starts to walk. I pull back on his hand, making him stop and give me a questioning look. “When did you buy this?” Why I need to know right now, I’ll never know, but it’s too late to take it back now.
His eyes are dancing with humor. “The day that you moved in.”
I narrow my eyes. “You couldn’t have. You were with me all day.”
He shakes his head. “No, I left while you were reorganizing everything in our closet.” His chuckle fills me with happiness. “Hell, I went and got your ring and you still weren’t done when I got back. You have too many clothes and shoes, honey. There is no way that shit should’ve taken you over three hours. You didn’t even notice that I was gone.”
“Everything has its place, Noah. Perfection takes time, thank you very much.” I sniff, ignoring his horrible comment about me having too many clothes like that’s even possible.
“Come on.” He tugs on my hand, propelling me towards the bathroom. “Time to find out if you’re going to have an excuse to buy even more clothes.”
I mean, when he puts it like that…
We walk hand in hand into the bathroom and towards the tiny plastic stick that will pretty much be determining our future. I turn off the beeping alarm on my phone. We both look at each other before looking down. He gives my hand a squeeze and nods his head. I give him a smile and nod my head in return. We both look down at the counter at the same time.
I whip my head up, and he does the same. I can feel the tears sliding down my face and pretend not to notice how glassy his eyes are.
He lifts me into his arms again and kisses me as his life depends on it. I wrap my arms around his neck and hold on for dear life. This kiss feels like love and possession all rolled into one. By the time we both finally come up for air, my lips, as well as other parts of my body, are tingling.
He leans his forehead against mine. “Fuck. I’m so happy.”
“Yeah?” I hiccup, not able to get a handle on all
