Getting the Axe - Nikki Mays Page 0,55

by anger.

“What did you say?” I try nonchalant but it comes out too gruffly.

She places her elbows on my chest, lifts her head into her hands and looks me in the eyes. “I said, I love you. And it’s not just the incredible sex talking.” She gives me a tiny smirk that has my heart galloping in my chest. I’m pretty sure that it’s beating so quickly that I would pass out if I was to stand up right now.

I run my fingers through her hair and enjoy the way that she leans into my touch. “You sure about that?”

She gives me an incredulous look. “Did you really just ask me if I was sure that I love you, Noah Ross?” She scoffs. “I know men aren’t always the brightest crayons in the box but please tell me that you aren’t one of those dull, no-name brands of crayons.”

I give her a frown. “Did you just tell me that you love me and call me stupid at the same time?”

She shrugs her tiny shoulders. “It seems very fitting for our relationship.”

I roll us over so that I’m on top of her again and begin to tickle her sides, making her screech with laughter. “Noah!” She giggles and tries to wiggle away unsuccessfully. “Knock it off!”

“Knock what off?” I ask innocently as I continue my torture.

“Stop tickling me before I take back what I said!” She twists my nipple just to be evil.

I jerk back and grab onto the spot that was just abused. She raises her eyebrow in challenge and I give her a smirk.

I slowly lower myself back on top of her and rub my nose against hers gently. “I love you too Elle, always if you’ll let me.”

Elle

I t’s been a few weeks since my awesome declaration of love. Okay, it was spastic, just like everything about our relationship seems to be. One second we’re blissful and the next we’re bickering over the patio furniture. I won that argument, by the way, with Dee’s help. I’m beginning to think that we’ll always bicker over stuff, especially when he’s being a total man about it.

Can you believe that Noah never had any patio furniture, a grill or anything else for his ginormous backyard before I moved in? I mean seriously, his backyard is a private oasis surrounded by trees to give you total privacy. He even has a gorgeous pool and hot tub for Christ’s sake and he had nothing out there!

I made sure to remedy that situation real quick once the weather started getting nicer. Of course, that started us off on another one of our bickering matches or foreplay, as his brothers have taken to calling it. Personally, I just think it’s Noah being a stubborn butthead, but whatever. I was so annoyed when I went out to sit in the sun one Saturday morning while having a cup of coffee only to realize that I couldn’t because there was nowhere to sit!

Noah’s amazing response when I asked him why he didn’t have any furniture out there? “Why would I? I don’t want anyone coming over. Getting furniture and a grill means that people will want to come over for dinner and shit. Do I look like someone who’s going to be throwing barbecues every weekend?” He’s come a long way with his grumpiness but unfortunately, he’s never really going to be a people person.

Too bad for him, that I am and invited his family and our friends over for a barbeque today. I mean come on, we now have amazing furniture, tons of space and a pool! There was absolutely no way that I was going to pass up having everyone over, especially when it’s supposed to be in the mid-eighties today.

I have to give him credit, he only briefly cringed when I told him what I had done. He even tried to smile, though truthfully it was more of a grimace when asking who I had invited. Although he was a lot more agreeable after a few blowjobs. He even went to the grocery store with me and helped me set everything up.

Men are so easy some days, I muse as I finish up making my tricolor pasta salad.

“What are those?” Noah asks in a voice dripping with disgust.

I look down at where he’s pointing and look back up at him. “Black olives.”

“What are you doing with them?” He’s eyeing them like they’re about to jump up and attack him. Good grief. I have had
