Getting the Axe - Nikki Mays Page 0,20

point.

I turn and start walking towards her bathroom. Not that I have very far to go. Her apartment is minuscule compared to my house. Hell, I’m pretty sure my shed is bigger than her apartment.

When you walk into her door, you walk straight into the living room/dining room. To the right is her galley kitchen. Straight ahead is her bedroom and next door on the right is her bathroom. All you have to do is turn in a circle and you’ve seen the entire place. I can’t figure out how she doesn’t feel trapped in such a small space. I’ve been getting so claustrophobic that I’ve been going out on her tiny ass balcony off of her living room. The damn thing is barely big enough for me, but at least I get outside for a few minutes.

“I’m getting in the shower,” I say without looking at her as I walk past.

I open up the linen closet across from the bathroom and take out a towel. I turn and walk into the bathroom. I take a look in the mirror and frown at my reflection. I need a decent shave and haircut. I’m nothing but meticulous about making sure that I don’t look scruffy and unkempt.

I shake my head and pull down my sweat pants and boxers. I’m about to start the shower when I realize that I need to get the stuff for my wound. Fuck. All that shit is out on the dining room table.

I try to wrap the towel around my waist, which is a lot harder than it should be thanks to only having one good arm. I finally manage to get it tied enough so that it doesn’t fall and I have to take a second. It’s fucking ridiculous that I get tired after doing the most mundane things, but here I am, winded from just putting a towel around my hips.

Deciding to skip my pity party, I open the door and prepare to walk out.

“Eeeeek.” Is squealed from the mouth that is currently attached to my abs.

I mumble an “oof” as I have the wind knocked out of me. The wind I had just gotten back.

I look down and see a very red-faced Elle. An Elle who is currently eyeing me up and down while her mouth resembles a guppy. She covers her eyes with her hand and turns around so fast that she bumps into the walls before falling to the floor.

I couldn’t keep my laugh in if I tried.

Elle

O h my God, I’m so sorry.” I shriek as I scramble away from the door at fast as humanly possible. I feel the wound care stuff that I was bringing to him, that I had seen he forgot to take from the table, and I push it roughly in the general direction of the bathroom.

I can hear his chuckles and it makes me want to crawl into a hole and die even more.

“You okay?” He chokes out as I’m still crawling around the floor with my eyes closed.

“Yep.” I squeak before I make a very unladylike grunt when I knock my face into a wall. “Never better.” I continue on my hands and knees until I feel the tile in the kitchen. I open my eyes since I know that there is a wall separating me and my boss.

My boss who is in nothing more than a towel that was hanging precariously low on his hips. Or so I’m guessing. It’s not like I saw too, too much before I came to my senses and turned around. When I promptly fell and embarrassing the absolute crap out of myself.

Who needs self-respect anyway? Not this girl obviously.

I lean back against the fridge and bang my head against the door.

I jump at the sound of his voice. “Are you okay? I heard a thud.” His voice filled with concern.

I close my eyes in mortification. “Yeah, just looking in the fridge to see what to make for breakfast.” I lie. “Have a great shower!” I chirp like some demented idiot.

There’s a slight pause. “Uh, thanks.” Is said before I heard the door close.

I let out a breath that I didn’t even realize that I was holding.

Holy crap! I thought that it was bad with him walking around shirtless in nothing but sweatpants. But dear Lord, how am I supposed to get the sight of all those tattoos and muscles out of my head. And of course, he has the friggin’ V on his lower stomach that
