was hurting and missing you.”

“I’m glad too,” he agrees. “And on that subject, I want you to know it really is okay if you want to date him. You were right: I was feeling insecure, but I think I would really like knowing you two are making each other happy. I was thinking about it a lot today, and I actually love the thought of you being as sweet to Hudson as you are to me. It made me sort of all bubbly and tingly inside when I pictured it.”

“Welcome to compersion, baby.”

“I get why you like it. It’s a nice feeling. It’s almost bigger than regular happiness, if that makes sense?”

“It makes complete sense.”

His words spark an idea in my mind. I’ve been stuck on a major part of the book I’m currently working on, and he just helped shake something loose. I grab my notebook and scribble a few quick notes before shoving it back into its place under the cash register.

“I’ve seen you write in there before. What is it? Is it like a journal or what?” he asks. A hint of guilt creeps over me, but I shove it down and look up with a grin.

“Something brilliant that’s going to earn me enough money to take you on a fabulous trip.”

“A trip, huh?” he leans forward conspiratorially. “Where are we going?”

“How about Tahiti? We can stay in one of those little bungalows over the crystal clear water. We’ll spend a week making love in the sand and day drinking.” Actually, that doesn’t sound like the worst idea in the world. I could book us tickets right now and take him next week.

“Wow, that must really be something you wrote down,” he says, eyeing my notebook with unconcealed curiosity. The guilt kicks up again. It’s no big deal. I should tell him I’m an author. Hudson already knows, and he might end up spilling the beans anyway. It’s just...I’ve never told anyone I’ve dated before. If Hudson hadn’t recognized me, I wouldn’t have volunteered the information either. Although, if he hadn’t recognized me, we wouldn’t have ended up connecting like we have.

This relationship is still so new, it won’t hurt if I wait a little longer to tell him. At least until I know how long this will last. For all I know, a few months from now I’ll be rolling into a new city, rolling the dice again on finding the place I belong. The thought sends a sharp pain through my chest. I shake it off and lean over the bar to press another kiss to his lips.

“You bet your ass it is.”

Since it’s a Monday night, the bar stays mostly slow, which means I have plenty of time to talk and flirt with Bishop until my shift ends.

“Your place or mine?” I ask, slipping my hand into his when we step out onto the sidewalk a couple of hours later.

“Would you mind if we go to mine? That way you can stay over, and I won’t have to worry about rushing home early to get ready for work.”

“I’m in,” I agree easily, following him to his car.

We take a short detour to pick up some food after my stomach growls, ordering enough for Leo in case he’s still awake and hungry when we get there. I find myself hoping he’ll be up still. I’d love to have the chance to hang out with him a bit too. He’s fun to flirt with, plus he feeds my sweet tooth, so he’s basically a hero as far as I’m concerned.

Leo

Bishop and Riot enter the apartment with fast food in tow. Bishop greets me with a quick kiss, and Riot smiles and gives me a friendly nod.

“You know, I’m starting to wonder if I did something wrong. You’re never half-naked when I come over anymore,” Riot flirts.

“I was only doing that to seduce Bishop. Now that I’ve got him, I figured I can put my shirt back on.”

“No, I’m with Riot: I vote you go back to the shirtless look,” Bishop jokes, lifting my shirt up to prove his point. Riot wolf whistles, and I wrap my arms around Bishop to playfully wrestle him away from my shirt.

“Now things are getting interesting,” Riot says as I pin Bishop’s arms down and spin him around, pressing my front flush to his back to restrain him.

“This is unfair, you’ve got like twenty pounds of muscle on me,” he complains.

I chuckle and kiss the side of his neck. “I think
