Forgotten - Dawn Nicole Stevens Page 0,54
I can do it.?
Dirk sat in silence, contemplating what she was asking. He didn?t like the idea of inexperienced witches practicing spells in his presence. Surely the outcome wouldn?t be good if something wasn?t right. After a few long moments, he explained as much to Ica.
She took in a deep breath and nodded, ?I get what you mean, but we have to find her and I can?t think of any other way. Let me try, please.?
Dirk clenched his jaw as he thought on the subject. Against his better judgment, he nodded. He wasn?t having any luck in tracking Jane down on his own, whether he liked it or not, this was one of his only remaining options and even if he would be putting himself in danger, he was willing to risk it for Jane. What he willed himself not to think about, was that Ica would be putting herself at risk also. He pushed that thought to the back of his mind.
Chapter 20
Dirk ordered one of his wolves to escort Ica to the store to pick up the things she needed and he laid back on the bed, once again, trying to connect with Jane.
Immediately, he could feel her exhaust and her self-pity. What was happening to her that had her so physically drained? He didn?t think that her captors were beating her, otherwise he?d feel her pain through the bond, unless Jane had discovered how to block him out. He?d been so busy searching for her, would he have noticed if she had been blocking him occasionally? But if she?d been physically harmed, he would feel her pain now, now that he knew the bond was open and could feel other emotions and feelings. Unless she knew how to only block certain aspects of herself. He clenched his jaw, hoping that that wasn?t what she was doing and tried to push it to the back of his mind. He mentally reached out to caress her, to let her know that he was there for her and would never give up searching. He wished that they?d have been bonded, because if they had, at least they could communicate. But he couldn?t worry over the could-haves, he needed to concentrate on what is and how to fix it.
A while later, a knock on the door startled Dirk and he realized he must have been sleeping. Being near Jane, in the only way he possibly could right now, must have put his tired mind at ease and he?d finally succumbed to the physical exhaustion. He?d been working so hard to find her that he wasn?t eating or sleeping near as much as he should be. His body felt refreshed, leading him to assume that he?d been asleep for a number of hours.
He stumbled to the door and pulled it open to find Ica standing on the other side, her arms full of bags and of course, the books his Alpha had provided her. He took the bags from her and placed them on the bed, then began sifting through the items inside of them. Something, or a couple of somethings, was wildly assaulting his nose and his sensitive snout was in a hurry for her to be done and have the things out of his room.
?Are you sure you want to do this?? he asked, turning to Ica with worry etched on his brow. His broken voice betrayed him, however, and he knew that she could tell that he was desperate to try anything.
Ica pulled the items from the bags and laid them out on the small table, then turned to him with a worried expression. ?I?m afraid you?re gonna get hurt doing this.?
?I don?t care. If it will help me find Jane, I?m willing to do it no matter the consequences.?
Ica?s brows furrowed and she sat down in one of the chairs, then gestured for him to sit as well. He took a seat across the table from her and glared, waiting for her to explain why she wasn?t working on whatever she?d planned to help him find his mate.
?I didn?t explain to you what this spell is gonna do. This spell will unite your mind with Jane?s and you?ll be able to talk to her.?
Dirk felt as if his breath had been knocked from his lungs as her words sank in. He?d been wishing that he and Jane were bonded so that he could speak with her, and now Ica was offering him a way to do that. Determination
