then looked down at the IV in her hand. She opened the door once again, and said, “Do you know how to get this out?” holding out her hand.

He cocked an eyebrow at her and took her hand, examining it, but then he paused and stared up into her eyes and she felt like she was going to melt. She wasn’t sure what the reason was for the way he looked at her, but she went to mush under his gaze. And his touch

Her skin was cool from the cold hospital room but his hands were hot and instantly warmed her, not just her hands, but all of her. The heat spread through her, up her arm to her chest, her neck and then down to her toes. She looked away, but then glanced back up at him and she saw him swallow, then he cleared his throat and focused on her hand.

He pulled some of the tape back from the IV and then petted her forearm as he said, “Close your eyes and look away.”

Jane grimaced and did as he told her and before she knew it, he said, “All done.”

She looked down at her hand and saw the blood trickle down over her knuckle, then began looking for something to blot it with. She spotted paper towels on the wall but as she turned to reach for them, he said, “It’ll heal almost instantly.”

She glanced at him, then down at her hand and watched as the wound closed under her stare.

She stared at it a moment, then moved to close the door, but he stopped her and said, “If you need anything else, just ask.”

She nodded, although she was suspicious over his new attitude. She closed the door and pulled off her gown, then looked at the clothes he’d handed her. It was a pair of black yoga pants, a pale blue tank and a pair of flip-flops. She pulled the pants on and as she looked at the shirt in her hands, she thought that it looked a little too small around the bust. She pulled the shirt down over her head and examined herself in the mirror again. She’d been right. The tank hardly covered anything.

She slipped on the flip-flops and glanced at her hair in the mirror. There was very little she would be able to do to it without washing it, so she arranged it, best she could to cover her chest, then folded her arms over it.

Sighing, knowing that she couldn’t really do much else to hide her body, she opened the door and stepped out.

The man was looking around the room when she opened the door, but when she emerged he stopped and looked at her. He looked her up and down and her discomfort grew as he eyed her. She felt so indecent in the tiny tank-top, but then she noticed him lick his lips and she bit her cheek, unsure if she’d grown even more uncomfortable, or flattered that he liked what he saw.

He quickly recomposed himself and cleared his throat as he jerked his gaze back to her face. “Are you ready to sneak out of here?” he asked.

Jane sighed and whispered, “Honestly, I’m not sure about anything I’m doing. I don’t even know your name.”

Chapter 2

He took her hand and Jane looked down at it. It seemed odd for a stranger to hold her hand. Before she knew what he was doing, he leaned down and kissed the back of it, then smiled at her and said, “I’m sorry I didn’t introduce myself earlier. My name is Dirk. I’m the Wolfzburg pack Delta.”

She smiled at him, unsure of what to say or what to do. He leaned away, standing up and Jane shifted her weight uncomfortably, then glanced down at her hand, which he was still holding. She watched as he glanced where her eyes had gone and then let go of her hand. He cleared his throat and then asked, “So, what is your name?”

She shrugged, feeling embarrassed and replied, “I don’t know. I don’t remember. The doctor called me Jane Doe.”

A shadow crossed his eyes and Jane felt his pity. She didn’t want his pity, or anyone else’s, so she quickly changed the subject. “So am I going to be able to just waltz right out of here?”

“No,” he answered with a mischievous grin. “I’m going to distract the nurses while you walk past.”

Jane nodded. She couldn’t come up with a better idea. At least, not
