Forever Changed - By Jamie Gibson Page 0,18
really had nothing to say and he pissed me off by swaying my thoughts away from Landon.
“Well, ok, I just wanted to apologize for running into you earlier in the hallway. I didn’t mean it at all really. The guys and I were messing around and one of them pushed me into you.” He stopped talking waiting for a response from me and I just sat there looking at him. He continued as his smile slowly faded from his face, “I am sorry as well that I didn’t help you pick up your books. I mean I should have, but I was afraid…”
“Afraid of what?” I asked him, which startled him and I heard gasps all around the cafeteria.
Everyone at the school thought I was a mute. I never talked to anyone, not even in class. So of course they would think that. I was graduating at the end of this year
and after four years of going to school with all these kids and them not hearing me talk. I couldn’t blame them.
“That I might bite you? That I might scream at you? What were you so afraid of Lucas?” I asked him with a scowl.
Lucas was wide eyed and quiet for a minute with no signs of a smile looking everywhere else now, but at me. Amazing how I could intimidate the captain of the football team. I giggled to myself, but still kept a straight face. I watched him a bit annoyed while I waited for him to reply.
“I am not sure really. I mean your different you never talk to anyone and actually you have never talked at all, for that matter. So I was afraid.” Lucas said innocently.
I looked at him while choosing my words wisely before I spoke them out loud. First off four years and no one ever wanted to talk to me until now. Second now I will be just a joke. Third I can blow all this off and finally make a few friends. Hmmmm….decisions, decisions, decisions.
Finally I looked at Lucas and said very annoyed, “Why start now? I have things to do and you are bothering me. Go on somewhere and waste someone else’s time!”
Lucas went to open his mouth, shut it and turned around walking towards his table. The other kids in the cafeteria started talking rather loudly and no doubt about the confrontation between Lucas and me. I watched as Lucas threw high-fives at some of the other guys, laughing hysterically. I watched as a few of his friends were annoyed when they started passing money around.
I was just the big joke for him and his group of friends. I have no idea if he ever looked back at me or not, I had lowered my head looking in a school book that I was pretending to read.
Why should I really make friends now? I was almost eighteen, graduating school early in a couple of months, and now they wanted to be nice and be friends, forget it.
Besides I have a demon that I could be friends with. I giggled and got up to head out the door to my car. I was skipping school for the rest of the day, I needed to get home.
I skip school all the time. I make great grades and my father is or rather was paying off the board of education to count me as present in school, even though I was never there.
I did what I wanted and when I wanted. I answered to no one and as far as Lucas Sheath is concerned he is not a part of my agenda and I have no time for games. He better tread lightly or he will be sorry!
Chapter 15
When I arrived home, I noticed my mother was not here yet. I decided that now my opportunity to find my father’s study. I needed answers and I needed them now. My head was spinning from everything going on. Who knew my whole life would change in one weekend?
I walked up the stairs and stopped outside my bedroom door. Where would my father hide the button that opened the door to his study? The only place I could think of, because there was not really anything here, was around my door frame. I started from the floor gently sliding my fingers along the frame working my way to the top. I went up the side and stopped halfway in the middle, when I felt a small lump on the top part of the
