Michael picked a salad place in Bravo. We take a smart car to the Bravo compound then get in a Security SUV. I like that they stay with us without being so close. It’s like Providence.
The salad place is busy. Most of the people leave with take-out trays. We sit to eat. Garren doesn’t like carrying food and walking. “You smiled a lot yesterday. Today you’re smiling too. We did good and Web knows how to make you happy.”
I smile at him. “He does, your brother is good at making me happy. He was right, sex is better with ties.”
He shakes his head no then Michael does. I nod. “No sex talk. I’m just telling you he’s right and does make me happy. He washed me and always takes care of me.”
He nods. “Hamp takes care of Télia like that. He makes your food. That’s good, Wheeler and Hamp do that. Web is like the men in the unit. He’s good and we didn’t have to tell him how to do it. He always takes care of everyone so he already knew.”
I nod. “We’re going to Colorado in two weeks. He’s going to show me the mountains and said they have a waterfall.”
Michael takes his phone out and shows me. “Here. Drones show you.”
“It’s another fun house. I thought it was going to be a gloomy cave. Alder is amazing.” They’re all amazing. Web said they printed everything for the houses with recycled trash. Even the carpet and wood floors are recycled material. I don’t know about houses so it’s all impressive to me. They don’t think much of it. Alder just nodded when I told him.
“I go.” Michael says.
Oh no. I don’t know if it’s just me going or everyone is welcome. “We have to ask Web. I don’t care if you go. More people would be fun but Web made the plans. He might want to be alone.” No, he likes people around too. He said he missed them all being in his house and didn’t really like being alone at the new place. I don’t want to mess up what he planned so I don’t say anything else.
“Husbands take new wives to honeymoon. That’s alone. Hamp and Télia took me so I could meet the tribe and grandfather wanted to show me his house. They’re different than ours. Like here. It’s different but the same.” He smiles.
I nod. “Virginia was different than Providence and here. I like it here. It’s easy and not so scary.”
A grubby guy stands at the table. “You’re new here. Nice. We need a new pool of women.”
I shake my head at him trying to find words in my racing brain. “She’s my brother’s wife.” Garren stands up.
Brad is behind him fast. “You don’t want to do this. She’s with the Clubs.”
The man is mad looking from me to Michael then Garren. His face looks like it’s getting ready to spit at us. That will be bad. “My new Brothers were taking me out for a sister lunch. I just got biker-married. It’s a little different than married. I think it’s better because you’re not waiting for the day and going crazy with plans. Who needs to test food? You already know what food tastes like.”
The grungy guy smiles at me. “That’s true. Good luck. I’ll keep looking for a woman and will make sure she’s not testing food. That’s fucking nuts.”
I nod and look at my salad taking a deep breath. Garren sits and starts rocking. I touch his hand. Michael touches his arm. Brad stays behind Garren until he settles. When Garren looks at me, he’s mad. “Mean people are stupid.”
I laugh. I bet it’s because I’m relieved. “They are.”
We eat with no other mean people problems. I can’t wait to get back to the compound. I like the safe zone restaurants. Too many outside people live close to the Clubs. Phoenix has tons of people in their towns too. The sub shop had a mean woman in it that touched Garren, I don’t ever want to go there. He told me about it for two phone calls.
