than Gideon, she didn’t think anyone in Harmony Falls knew anything about Preacher’s life.

“What about your parents?” she said.

“My mother died when I was twenty and I don’t have a clue where my father is,” Preacher said. “I saw him at the funeral and gave him my cell number. He said he’d call, but he never did.”

Another flash of pain and she pressed a kiss against the bulge of his upper arm. “I’m sorry. Your dad is stupid.”

“He was a drunk. He’s probably dead from fucking liver disease by now. It’s why I don’t drink much.”

“That’s understandable,” she said. “I know it might be hard to believe because of the way I sucked back that glass of wine tonight, but I don’t generally drink that much either. I hate going to the bars – always have. They’re too loud and too crowded, and men and women are only looking for one thing. I can’t even remember the last time I went to a bar.”

He squeezed her hand. “You wanna talk about what’s upsetting you now?”

While she liked that Preacher had opened up to her a bit, telling him her problems would bore him to death and then he might leave. She didn’t want to sit here alone feeling sorry for herself. She wanted to be in bed with Preacher and forget about how pathetic her life was for a little while.

Yeah, because it’s not at all pathetic asking Preacher to teach you how to bang.

“Addison?” Preacher said.

She let go of his hand and pressed her palm against his crotch, rubbing gently and smiling when she felt him harden. “What I want, is to go into my bedroom and practice my blowjob skills again.”

The look on his face suggested that he might actually argue with her. She gave him a light squeeze and leaned forward to lick a slow path up his thick neck to his ear. She sucked on his earlobe, her hand still circling over his dick. “Don’t you want my mouth again, Simon?”

He groaned, and she squeaked in surprise when he stood abruptly and pulled her to her feet. “Actually, I think it’s my turn to eat your pussy. You got a problem with that, Miss Moore?”

She grinned and followed him eagerly toward the bedroom. “No problem at all, Mr. Preacher.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

Preacher climbed off his bike and slipped off his helmet. He ran a hand through his hair, groaning inwardly when Gideon’s SUV pulled into the empty space in the street in front of his bike. He glanced at Addison’s apartment building before walking to the driver’s side of Gideon’s vehicle.

Gideon was wearing his sheriff’s vest and as Wanda’s voice crackled over the radio, he turned it down. “Hey, buddy.”

“Hey,” Preacher said. “What are you doing here?”

“Just doing my rounds through town,” he said. “The better question is – what are you doing here?”

“You know what I’m doing here,” Preacher said.

“Yeah, the same thing you were doing here last night and the night before,” Gideon said.

Preacher brushed imaginary dirt off the front of his leather vest. “When did you start being a such a creeper?”

Gideon grinned. “I was just doing my job, until I saw your bike here Tuesday night. That got me curious, so I drove by last night during my shift. I thought it was a once a week thing with you two.”

“You done telling me where I was last night?”

“I’m working the night shift this week,” Gideon said.

“I know.”

“I drove by here at four this morning and your bike was still parked on the street. You spent the night with Addie.”

“Nice work, detective. You’ve cracked the case.”

“God, you’re a fucking ass when you want to be,” Gideon said. “Since when did you spend the night at a woman’s house, Preacher?”

Since he couldn’t get enough of Addison or her soft sweetness. He could have left last night. It was only ten when he was finished making her come on his mouth and his cock. But Addison’s bed was comfortable, and she had already fallen asleep against him and it was just fucking easier to stay the night.

You also wanted to give her the chance to tell you what was wrong this morning. Admit it.

No, he didn’t. If Addison didn’t want to confide in him, so what? It wasn’t that kind of relationship and he should be fucking happy she wasn’t sharing every goddamn detail of her life with him.

It didn’t matter anyway. Addison was quieter than usual this morning, but she still hadn’t told him about
