Forbidden Harmony (Harmony Falls #3) - Elizabeth Kelly Page 0,89

entire day in her bed. He couldn’t get enough of her, and already his cock was hardening at just the thought of being inside her again.

He raised his hand to knock but the door opened before he could. His semi disappeared immediately at the look on Addison’s face. “What’s wrong?”

Her face was blotchy, her nose was red, and her eyes were watery. He stepped inside and shut the door. “Are you crying?”

“No, no,” she said. “I just, um…”

“Why are you crying?”

“I’m not.” Her eyes watered even more, and she turned away. “It’s been a bit of a bad day. I’m going to get a drink. Would you like something?”

She walked to the kitchen without waiting for a reply, leaving him standing by the front door. What the fuck was going on? Why was she crying? Had that prick of an ex-fiancé upset her?

How fucking stupid are you, buddy? You really can’t figure it out?

How the hell was he supposed to know what was making her cry? He wasn’t a goddamn mind …

Shit. The woman out front with the wedding dress. It was Addison’s wedding dress. She was upset because she sold her dress.

Yeah, because she still loves that asshole.

She didn’t. She couldn’t. Not after what he’d done to her.

If she doesn’t, why is she crying over selling her wedding dress? If she hated him, wouldn’t she be happy to get rid of her dress?

He reached for the door handle. Addison was obviously upset, and she wouldn’t be in the mood for sex. And he wasn’t in the mood to stick around and let her cry on his shoulder about how much she missed that asshole Harrison.

Don’t be such a dick. You’re really gonna walk out when she’s upset and needs someone to talk to? She’s a sweet girl and deserves better than that. Hell, she deserves better than you.

That was for fucking sure. Still, the thought of leaving while she sat in her apartment alone and cried, made him feel pretty fucking awful. He realized that he wanted to make her feel better. That knowing she was upset was upsetting him. If making her feel better meant listening to her sob about how much she still loved that undeserving prick instead of having sex with her, he would do it. It wouldn’t fucking kill him.

He took his boots off and walked into the kitchen. Addison was standing at the counter and pouring a glass of wine. “Would you like a glass?”

“No, thanks.”

He watched as she took two healthy swallows of the wine. She still had her back turned to him, and he said, “You okay?”

“Yes.” She drank the rest of the wine and turned to face him. “Ready?”

He stared at her. “For what?”

She smiled but it looked forced and unnatural. “Another lesson.”

“You’re obviously upset.”

“I’ll get over it. Let’s go have sex.”

“Do you want to talk about why you’re upset?” he said.

To his immense surprise, she shook her head. “No, I’m good.”

She tried to slip by him, and he took her arm, tugging her to a stop. “Addie, you’re not good.”

“I am,” she insisted. “Please, I don’t want to talk. You’re here for sex, right? So, let’s have sex.”

He pulled her into his arms. She was stiff and she left her arms at her sides as he rubbed her back. He didn’t say anything and after only a minute or two, she relented and softened against him, burying her face in his neck. He waited for the tears to fall, but his little Sunshine surprised him again.

There were no tears. Instead she let him hug her for a few minutes before trying to step away. He refused to let her go and she patted his back. “I’m good now.”

“Tell me why you’re upset.”

“I’d rather not,” she said.

“Why?”

“Because I’m not going to bore you with my life.”

“Maybe I want to be bored by you,” he said.

She laughed, but there was a soft note of sadness to it that made his chest ache. “I know what you want from me. C’mon, let’s go to the bedroom.”

“I’m hungry.”

She leaned back and stared up at him. “What?”

“I didn’t have a chance to eat supper. Do you have any of that veggie chili left over?”

“Yes.”

“Do you mind if I grab some?”

She hesitated and then shook her head. “No, but then we’re having sex, right?”

“Yeah,” he said. “Did you eat already?”

“I did.”

He pushed her gently in the direction of the living room. “Go and knit or something. I’ll grab my food and join you.”

Confusion on her face,
