it.”

She laughed out loud. “I like you winging it. And I like your caveman side too. Especially if it’s right…about…there.”

She guided his hands back to her core, then returned to touching her breasts.

“And right…about…here.” She tipped her nipple into the O of his puckered lips.

For a moment, he paused with sensory overload. Then he resumed suckling while circling his thumbs. Bloody hell. Why was he acting like a clueless teen who didn’t know where to start?

Because it’s Holly, his dragon said. Every time with her is like the first time.

Of course, their only other time had been a decade before. Still, something told him they could spend a lifetime together and still have a first-time feeling whenever they touched.

A lifetime, his dragon murmured. Good plan.

Except that wasn’t his plan. Giving in to desire now would shatter all the carefully laid plans he’d been working toward for the past fifteen years. But somehow, that didn’t seem like the disaster it had once been. On the contrary, it felt more like his ticket to a better, fuller life.

“Oh,” she exclaimed when he teased her entrance.

He blinked, pushing away thoughts of the future. All that mattered now was… Well, now. His mate needed him, and he needed her.

He slipped a finger inside her, relishing her quiet groans. His body burned with need, but he managed to go slowly, making sure Holly was wide, wet, and absolutely, positively ready for more.

“Oh, I’m ready, all right,” she murmured.

He looked up, finding her eyes swirling with visions of what they could do next.

He flexed, lifting her off the sill. Then, inch by perfect inch, he lowered her onto his straining cock. His mouth fell open as he did, while Holly hissed with need.

“Yes…”

She bottomed out, and he held her there, relishing the burn. Then he lifted her slightly and lowered her again.

She moaned, tightening her grip on his shoulders. “Yes…”

Slowly, they started rocking, finding the perfect rhythm. A rhythm that quickly grew faster and more intense. His thrusts became deeper, the sounds they made wilder. Lachlan gritted his teeth, intent on prolonging their climax. But Holly’s cries made it impossible to hold back, and when she clenched down over him for the third or fourth time, he shuddered and released.

Sweet, sweet release, his dragon murmured while his mind exploded with light. Light so powerful and bright, it erased all his thoughts.

He held Holly tight, marveling at how deeply they were connected — in every sense of the word. Her chest rose and fell with unsteady pants, and she mumbled incoherently. A happy kind of incoherent, much like the blur in his mind. She smoothed her hands over his back, then gulped and tipped her forehead against his. He nuzzled her, inhaling her scent.

Behind her, rain slid down the outside of the windowpane. The air ought to have been cool and clammy, yet all he felt was warmth. Still, Holly would soon feel the chill, and that wouldn’t do.

Slowly, he lowered her to the floor.

“Hey, I liked that view,” she protested.

“Not as much as I liked it. But you’ll be cold soon.”

She laughed. “At the rate I’m burning up? No way.” Her eyes took on a mischievous glint, and she gestured to the stairs. “Still, there is another view I can show you. Come on.”

Lachlan followed reluctantly. “Promise me you don’t mean a view of the landscape.”

She laughed. “Not in this rain. I have a much better view in mind.”

Enticing as that sounded, he slowed, admiring her perfect backside as she swung up the stairs. But when they came out on the upper floor, the view was even better. Not the view Holly gestured to — the open beams of the ceiling. Instead, his eyes swept over her perfect body.

“Trevor had the place renovated a while ago. The attic used to be just storage. Then he fixed it up into a guest suite. Nice, huh?”

Lachlan forced himself to look around once, then turned back to Holly. “Grand,” he whispered.

It wasn’t just all that smooth skin and her perfect curves he found so enticing. It was the way her body called to his, hinting at what was to come.

“See?” Holly gestured. “It’s got everything you need. Writing table…comfy couch…”

He considered them briefly, then dismissed each in turn. Yes, it would be fun to pull Holly into his lap in that chair or on that couch. But fun wasn’t what his body needed right now — and neither did hers, he sensed. The burning need they’d briefly sated was
