Finding The Lost Mystic Islan - Liberty Parker Page 0,5
and didn’t look too happy about it based on the growly voice he used.”
“I bet you reacted as well,” she teases, sniffing the air. When her eyes grow comically wide, I feel myself begin to blush. “Oooh, someone’s got a cru-ush.”
“Stop sounding like one of those awful girl bands we make fun of,” I frustratingly snap. Of course, there’s no real bite behind my remark; Shyla’s too damn funny to stay angry at for any length of time. “I can’t help that my hormones and my animal think he’s the one. Doesn’t mean I have to act on it or anything, right?”
She rolls her eyes at me for a change. “Yeah, right. Can’t wait to see how that ends up working out for you.”
“We need to get busy and stop fooling around and gossiping like a bunch of old hens. I had an email this morning informing me that two little ones are being assigned to us that need to be placed.”
“I’m on it, doggonit,” she teases, picking up our empty plates and taking them over to the sink. She quickly rinses them out and places them into the dishwasher while I wipe down the table and counters. Once we’re done, we grab our purses and head out the door.
There’s work to be done.
Babies who need a home.
I send up a silent prayer to the goddesses and gods that the little lion cub is safe and that we’ll find him in time to keep anything dire from happening.

I decide to go into the precinct and go through the open case files to figure out who might be behind the rapes and kidnappings happening in Galveston. I know deep down, to the depths of my bones, that it’s someone that has been in trouble with the law in the past, or here recently, on the island. As I’m going through the files individually, a name happens to jump out at me—Echo Childs. He is a vampire who has been in trouble throughout the earlier years of his life and not too far in the distant past. That’s where, and who, I believe I should start my investigation off with. I go in search of Gaia to see if she’ll be able to help shine some light on this vampire and his troubled life. Walking into the lounge area to get another cup of joe, I run into her. “Gaia, just the Fae I was looking for to help this ole grizzly out. I came across this case file that I need to look into closer. Since you are the oldest and smartest Fae on Mystic Island, I thought you would be able to assist and help me out.”
“Of course, Sheriff, let me see what, and who, you are talking about. And by the way, you’ve earned yourself some brownie points just now with those compliments.” A deep, crimson blush is highlighted on the apple of her cheeks as she says this. Grabbing the file from me, she begins to scan the information before a look of disgust becomes evident on her face. “Oh, this vampire has been a thorn of contention in the side of everyone on the island ever since he has been a resident, which has been about one hundred and fifty years now. He has always stated that the human race is below us and has tried to convince everyone that his opinion is factual. He’s worked hard to change everyone’s course of thinking that he’s come into contact with here and is determined to convince them that his way of thinking is how everyone should feel.”
“I’m wondering what brought on this way of thinking for him to act out like this?”
“He firmly believes that a human killed his parents, but the proof of his parents’ demise is very sketchy at best.”
“Why would you say that?” I ask this question with a sharp edge laced in my voice. My curiosity is piqued. This could be the reason for all of the atrocities happening in and around Mystic Island as well as that of Galveston.
“I remember this case like it happened yesterday. Echo’s parents were visiting a family member in Dallas and never returned home. No bodies or remains of any kind were ever found. The sheriff at the time just pronounced them dead without any evidence of the fact.”
“Sounds like this will be a great starting point for me to begin. I’m heading out to his last known location but need to go through more of the files
