Finding The Lost Mystic Islan - Liberty Parker Page 0,1

really do exist.

The problem we’re facing is that there’s too many to keep track of. These rogues are finding humans, raping them, and forcing them to stay at their sides until they are satisfied that their seed has taken. They plan on having their child’s first prudent years being raised by the breeders. It’s hard being on the run and in hiding while having to provide for a newborn. They need love, attention, and a lot of personal care. Diapers, formula, midnight feedings… it’s hard to hunt and find your next victim while pampering a baby. Those that are above our pay grade have advised that they suspect there are several hidden cells where these precious babies are being raised. So far, however, they’ve hit nothing but a brick wall with respect to finding even one of them. All I know is besides the orphans we take in, when we get information that a specific child is missing, it becomes all hands on deck. Teams of trackers go out in an attempt to locate the child, and right now, a lion cub is their mission.

“I’ll never stop, I’ll never give up searching until I’ve saved as many of you as I can,” I promise the missing.

I’ve served the supernatural kind all of my adult life. I’ve been a missionary, a mercenary, and a council leader. You name it, I’ve been involved in it. This new travesty that’s been brought on by our own makes my stomach quiver and my throat clog up. Building an army to take out the humans, people we protect from our world and knowledge of our secreted existence, means the death and destruction of many. Not just our own either. The world as we know it will irrevocably change if these rogues get their way.

I’m determined not to let that happen...ever. It’s my life’s mission to take them out and destroy as many of them as I can. I will rip their throats out and dismember their heads from their bodies. Some claim I’m monstrous, but the ones I seek out and destroy are the real monsters. They are the beings that nightmares and folklore are built on. I’m not talking about the easy, lighthearted ones either; I’m talking Grimm Brothers scary. All of those things that go bump in the night were started by something that one of our kind has started. Something they’ve done in the past that turns someone’s pallor from a deep tan to stark white.

Every story, every crazy tale, has some sort of accuracy attached to it.

I’ve been hired by Mystic Island to come in and take over for their sheriff, who’s retiring from his position of authority. You’d think it’d be an easy, laid-back job, unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth of the matter. Me being a bear shifter, not just any bear, but a grizzly makes me appear scary and not one to be messed with. My species is known for its roughness and gruffness. We are hard to take down and feared by many, which makes a position of authority a good fit for my kind. I’m a bastard on a good day. I’m not one to sit idly by while the world around me crumbles. I’m a go-getter, a ballbuster. I don’t allow laziness and I demand one-hundred-fucking-percent from the men and women who serve under me. Walking into the small diner where I’m supposed to meet the retiring sheriff, all voices quiet and the eyes of the patrons swing in my direction. I can feel them scanning me from the tips of my boots to the hat sitting on top of my head. I tip my head in greeting and march my way over to Cal.

“Cal.” I acknowledge him as I sit across the booth from him. The ass put my back to the door, something I can’t stand. I like to see everything coming my way to be able to prepare if something were to go wrong.

“Trigger, how are you doing, man?”

“I’m good, you sure you wanna retire? You’re still young, ya know?” I tease him. He’s only three-hundred years old which is still quite young for our kind.

“A hundred and fifty years serving this island is enough for this man,” he jests as he pushes his menu in my direction. “The food’s good, the coffee’s better.”

A young waitress saunters over to me, swaying her hips dramatically to draw the attention of all the males in the room. I make a mental note
