I was about to start grumbling about Mr. Broody himself, when I felt his unique power signature heading in my direction. A moment later, he leaned on the doorway and looked in at all of us.
“James,” I called out. “Come sit with me.”
James hesitated for a moment and glanced around at all the baby stuff. He’d been a little distant lately, but I had a theory it was due to nerves. I was about to bring three pups into the world, and that scared the big, bad wolf.
“You belong here with us,” I told him softly. “You’re going to be a great dad.”
“Yeah!” Jason agreed. “Check out the tactical stuff Mace and I got!”
James started to relax as the twins happily showed him their tactical baby supplies. Pink teddy bears might give him nightmares, but that man could handle battle gear. I had a feeling that once he held the babes in his arms, he would melt completely.
I gave a happy sigh as I relaxed with all of my mates around me. They were talking, laughing, and working together to make a home for our babies. I daydreamed about what the little ones were going to look like when they finally popped out of the oven. Would they have Cody’s Caribbean blue eyes? James’ dark hair? Or would they take after Austin and me?
I smiled as I looked over at Mason and Jason. They were about to get a dose of their own medicine when the triplets came out. Twin boys would keep them on their toes, and my little girl would have them wrapped around her little finger. I glanced over at James. I could only imagine what he was going to be like once she got old enough to date.
Austin caught my eye with an amused look, clearly following my train of thought. No matter what our babies looked like, they would be a product of all seven of us. I laid a hand on my belly and closed my eyes as I listened to the banter around me. This family was only going to get better with time.
The End
Thanks for sticking with Anna and the guys throughout the whole journey! Writing this last book was difficult because I just wasn’t ready to let them go and say goodbye. Anna’s grown so much since the first book, and so have her guys. I shed a few tears writing the epilogue because they’ve been such a big part of my life for so long. No one’s story ever really ends, but this seems like the right spot to give everyone closure
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
This book is fiction, but PTSD is real for Veterans as well as other survivors of trauma and abuse. At times the darkness may seem overwhelming and situation hopeless. Reaching out might seem like an impossible task when you are the deepest in it, but please remember that you’re not alone. There are others who will stand by your side and battle the darkness and despair alongside you.
Everyone has dark moments in their life that we sometimes wish we could erase or forget. But sometimes it’s the pain and struggle that we have gone through that gave us our inner strength.
For me, writing started as a way to confront some of the demons of my past so that I could put them behind me forever. Most of my characters have a dark or troubled past, and my books follow their progress as they emerge from the darkness that has held them down for so long.
As the darkness fades, hope for a better future starts to emerge (like the sun after a storm). A piece of my soul goes into each one of my books, and my hope and faith in a brighter tomorrow is reflected in each one of my characters.
Books have always been a source of escape and enjoyment for me, so I hope that my work can help others in the same way
