“And you’re not welcome here,” Mason added as he mirrored Jason’s body language. “Get lost.”
Kelsey dropped her sultry act, and her face twisted in anger. “Open this gate right now.”
Henderson was looking between the human and the three of us, his mouth hanging open in confusion. He had no idea that Kelsey was a manipulative bitch who had used Anna for years before we met her.
I moved forward until only the gate stood between me and the intruder. The human had to tilt her head up to keep eye contact with me, as not even her ridiculous pink heels gave her enough height.
“Leave,” I said forcefully, letting some of my rage bleed into my voice.
Kelsey took half a step back, her eyes widening in alarm. Jason chuckled at her reaction, and Kelsey’s fear turned to defiance. She moved back up to the gate and placed her hands on the cold metal.
“Anna’s going to be angry if I tell her that I came to see her, and you refused to let me through,” Kelsey said with a smirk. “We’ve been friends for a lot longer than she’s known you. There’s no way she would ever agree to let you throw me out on the street with nowhere to go.”
Jason snorted, but Mason looked concerned.
“She’s right,” Mason said to me with our bond. “This is Anna’s decision to make.”
I gritted my teeth. “Anna has more important things to worry about.”
I motioned for Henderson to open the gate. If this girl wouldn’t leave, then I would physically throw her off the property. And if she still wouldn’t leave… let’s just say the police wouldn’t come knocking at our door if she disappeared.
“James…” Mason’s serious tone surprised me enough that I turned to him with a raised eyebrow. The twins never called me by my first name. Usually, it was a sarcastic ‘boss.’
“It’s to Anna’s benefit if we let her fight this battle herself,” Mason continued once he had my full attention. “As much as I want to take care of this myself, Anna needs closure with this girl.”
I sighed. “It’s more to her benefit if she never has to see this bitch ever again.”
“Well?” Kelsey demanded. “Are you just going to stand there, making faces at each other, or are you going to let me in?”
“Let her in,” Austin said through our bond. He was supposed to be busy with Anna right now, but someone must have clued him in as to what was happening here.
I scowled and then turned my angry stare at each of the twins. I didn’t like it when they went over my head to get Austin.
Jason held up his hands defensively. “It wasn’t us.”
Mason looked in Henderson’s direction, who gave an embarrassed shrug.
“He asked what was going on down here,” Henderson said defensively.
“Fine. Let her through,” I growled. Austin had probably picked up on my mood through the bond. He had the uncanny ability to sense when I was in a killing mood.
The gate creaked open enough to let Kelsey through, and she strutted by us as if she owned the place. The twins exchanged a glance before following after her.
I briefly considered the consequences of going against Austin’s request and simply making the girl disappear. We didn’t have time to deal with useless twits. But after only a moment of deliberation, I strode after them. I might still get the chance to snap her delicate little neck.
Chapter 5
Kelsey
I tossed my hair and tapped my foot as I waited for one of the twin bookends to open the front door for me. When both of them just stared at me with barely concealed disdain in their eyes, I pursed my lips and raised an eyebrow before looking pointedly toward the door. Why were they being so difficult? Were they really so untrained that they didn’t realize they should be opening doors for women?
The dark one strode up behind us and let a growl out under his breath. The twin in blue twisted his lips as if he were holding in his words, but he opened the door. The one in green gave me a mocking bow.
“After you, milady,” Green said with a wave of his hand.
I held eye contact with him for a moment longer to show him that he couldn’t intimidate me, then swept through the doorway. While the mansion looked impressive on the outside, it was surprisingly pedestrian on the inside. It was lacking in designer furniture and seemed outfitted more for comfort
