Fight, Jamiee - Ellie R. Hunter Page 0,11
other’s backs no matter what, and tonight, he needs to have yours.”
“Have his back when he’s been fuck…” Damon can’t bring himself to finish, but he does add, “Behind my back!”
Alice steps in and calmly assures, “We’ve got your back, Freddie.” She then turns to Damon. “We should be focusing on Jamiee.”
The tension in the room eases.
Damn, she’s good.

Jamiee
The news is playing on the television in the background, but it’s the blog sites I keep refreshing on my phone that interest me more. Lacey and her husband are asleep, and the house is so quiet, I can hear my heart thumping away in my chest as I track the updates on Freddie. Social media is ablaze with speculation as to why he beat the living shit out of Deacon. There’s no word on how Deacon’s doing—not that I give a shit about him—nor is there any news on if Freddie has been arrested. This is such a disaster, I could scream. I should answer one of Damon’s calls and gain answers from him, but he’ll want answers from me in return.
Speaking of the devil, my phone screen lights up with another call from him. I swipe the ignore button, and not a minute later, Alice’s name pops up. I know it’s Damon, so I ignore that call as well and refresh the blog site.
Still, no news.
Fuck! These sites are just as hungry for details as I am. I need more patience.
The bedroom door quietly opens, scuffing the thick carpet. Lacey, in her robe, looking half asleep, walks in and passes me her phone.
“He said if you don’t talk to him on the phone, he’s getting on a plane and coming here.”
Huffing, I take the damn phone and press it to my ear. Lacey sits herself on the end of the bed and looks at me with such pity, it makes me feel sick.
“Hey.”
“Tell me you’re doing okay?” is the first thing I hear.
“I’m okay.”
“Why didn’t you call me? I would’ve dropped everything for you.”
I smile, even though he can’t see it.
“I know you would have. I just didn’t want you getting into trouble.”
“They issued a warrant for Freddie’s arrest. He just left with his lawyer to turn himself in. So, with that being handled, I want to know what’s going on with you two?”
For once, I don’t know what to say. Damon’s the one I go to when I need advice, and the one I can throw one-liners at easily knowing he won’t take them to heart.
“He told me he’s in love with you. Are you in love with him?” He’s pretty calm as he speaks, shocking the shit out of me. I was fully prepared for yelling, and not being able to get a word in.
“It’s complicated.”
“It’s really fucking not. You either love him or you don’t.”
I can’t talk to him about Freddie, especially when it’s all in the past. I hand Lacey her phone back and slide off the bed.
She mumbles a goodbye to him and hangs up, throws more pity at me.
“What are you doing?”
I didn’t get around to unpacking much, but as I pull out clean jeans and a sweater, I grab a pair of fresh underwear and say, “I have to go back. I can’t hide from this, and I can’t let Freddie go through this on his own.”
Though I’m angry with him, he did it because of me. If he goes to jail, I’ll always regret calling him.
“I’ll book you a flight.”
“Don’t tell Damon. He’ll only meet me at the airport, and I’ll have to suffer his interrogation in the car.” I need all the time I can get.
“Okay. But you’re going to have to face him at some point.”
David plods through, yawning, and stops when he sees me readying to leave.
“You’re not going back to him, are you?”
“Of course not. I’m flying back to see this mess with Freddie through.”
I don’t mean to be snappy, but everything’s getting on top of me, and I just want to be back with the guys. Without having to be asked, David grabs my case and holdall, and takes them downstairs for me, while Lacey calls a cab to take me to the airport.
My sister wraps her arms around me, and for the first time in a long time, she hugs me so tightly, I have no choice but to relax in her hold.
“Please, look after yourself and stay safe. Talk to Damon. You know once he’s gotten over the shock, he’ll help you in any way
