gesture dripping with casual authority, and leads me into the empty bedroom. I glance over my shoulder and see Aspen staring helplessly as the door closes behind us.

I feel suddenly very vulnerable now that Turan and I are alone with the door closed. He keeps his hand on my arm, leading me firmly to the center of the room, and then finally he lets go and sits down on the bed. I stand in front of him, flustered, trying to keep my composure.
“Why are we here?” Turan growls, raising his eyebrows.
Because you’re an asshole, I think, glowering at him.
He stands up, taking a step forward and towering over me. “First, we’re going to get one thing straight,” he says, his voice low. “When I’m punishing you, you will treat me with respect. When I ask you a question, you will answer me. And when you speak to me for any reason during a punishment, you will call me sir.”
“I am not going to call you sir,” I protest, stepping backwards. “Turan, this is ridiculous. It was a stupid rule, and you know it. But if it makes you happy, I won’t go into that part of the city again, okay?”
“No, not okay,” he growls, and there’s a subtle change in his demeanor that tells me I’ve crossed some new invisible line I instantly regret. “You’re a part of the Vostra now, and it’s time you start acting like it. You need to understand the way things work around here.”
“I do understand the way things work around here,” I tell him frantically, my panic rising.
“That stupid rule was designed to protect your safety,” Turan hisses. “We are at war with the Gordulla Family and fugitives according to the UPE. If you understood the way things worked, you wouldn’t have put yourself and others in danger.”
I feel my cheeks getting hot. When I hear him break it down like that, I know he’s right. Leaving the tourist area was reckless. More reckless than I realized. I wish that I hadn’t done it, and not just because of the situation I’m in now. I have a good life with the Butarza Family. Better than when I worked for the Empire, or before. A better life than I thought I could hope for growing up.
It’s so humiliating to be in this situation with Turan, of all people. Turan Butarza, wanted criminal, Vostra captain, and absolute panty-dropper in the bearded, tattooed sort of way. Ever since the first time I saw his face behind a buzzing blue force field under UPE lockup, I’ve thought he was handsome. And nursing him back to health as he came off of sedatives drugs after his arrest, I developed a certain affection for him that I haven’t been able to shake. Perhaps even a crush, if you want to use that word.
Even now, as he glares at me with stern authority, I find an annoying part of myself wanting his approval.
“I’m going to put you over my knee now,” Turan tells me, reaching for my hand. “You know you’ve earned this. It will go better for you if you’re obedient.”
I allow Turan to take my hand and lead me over to the bed, my mouth dry and my pulse racing. I can’t believe this is happening. Ever since I joined the Vostra, I’ve been doing everything I could to avoid being punished.
Well, everything except not breaking the rules, a little voice reminds me.
Turan sits down on the bed and tries to pull me down over his lap. I resist automatically, acting on instinct, and he overpowers me with his strength, pinning my legs between his and delivering several loud spanks over my skirt.
“Stop fighting,” he growls, pinning me down with his free hand as he keeps spanking me.
“Ow!” I yelp, my ass stinging already, trying to get away.
Turan spanks me over my skirt until I stop fighting, slumping in his lap with a sore butt.
“Better,” he says softly, and I feel his fingers stroking my stinging bottom over the fabric. His touch feels good, almost soothing, and I’m embarrassed to find myself enjoying it. “Kora, why do I have you over my knee?”
“Because I broke the rules,” I say, trying to keep the defiance out of my voice.
Slap! Turan gives my bottom a hard spank. “What do you call me?”
I don’t want to say it. I refuse to answer him, trying to maintain whatever shred of my dignity I have left.
Another spank. “Kora, this doesn’t end until you start
