Fallen Stars and Broken Dreams - C.C. Masters Page 0,84
thirsty to even think about changing course now. I had the sneaking suspicion that my headache was partially due to dehydration, and I intended to rectify that right away. When I made it through the doorway and into the kitchen, I saw Maverik and a third guy sitting at the counter with Kingston.
All three of them turned to stare as I hobbled to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of red Gatorade. I took a few sips cautiously, but when I didn’t feel the urge to vomit, I felt confident to take some normal swallows.
“You look rough,” Kingston chuckled.
I ignored him as I grabbed a second bottle and tucked it under my arm. There was no way I was going to hang out down here with them. I’d bring my hydration back up to my room so I could suffer in peace.
Maverik slid in front of me before I could make it to the exit, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Now is not the time to fuck with me,” I growled at him.
Kingston laughed. “It’s always a good time for fucking.”
I tried to step around Maverik, but he kept his body in front of mine. His tall, muscular, sexy body. Fuck, was I still drunk?
Maverik ignored my glare and peered into my eyes. “He’s right - you don’t look so good.”
I huffed. “Abby and I had a few drinks last night, and my body isn’t used to alcohol. I feel like shit, and I’m so dehydrated that when I woke up this morning, my tongue was literally glued to the roof of my mouth. So, there’s no need to torment me further. I’m already suffering enough.”
Maverik’s eyes widened in surprise. “Your mouth was that dry? What do you remember about last night?”
I shook my head. “Nothing. I just woke up this evening, and it took me a minute to even figure out it was the next day.”
A flash of worry crossed Maverik’s face, and I was even more confused. Why would he care?
“You slept for almost an entire day?” he asked. “Do you have a bad headache?” He reached for my face, but I swatted his hand away.
“What’s with mood swing and interrogation?” I complained. “I thought you wanted to murder me for agreeing to hang out at your dad’s work?”
Maverik cocked his head at me. “I have the right to be suspicious of anyone trying to get close to my dad.”
I rolled my eyes. “Your dad seems to be under the mistaken impression that I need a father figure in my life.”
Kingston laughed. “You can call me daddy anytime you want.”
I groaned and started to walk away. “I’m going back to sleep. Please just leave me in peace.”
I must have made a truly pathetic figure, because Maverik let me pass without any more objections or questions.
I heard Maverik’s voice as I slowly made my way back to the stairs. “Kash, do you have something you need to tell me?”
So that was the infamous Kash I’d heard so much about. I was so out of it that I hadn’t registered anything about him but a male body about the same size as Maverik and some dark hair. I doubted I would be able to pick him out of a crowd. I looked up at the very long set of stairs forlornly. Did I really need to go back up there?
Footsteps approached, and I hurriedly put my foot on the first stair and used the railing to pull myself up. I barely made it up the next two stairs before the footsteps stopped right behind me.
“I don’t think she’s going to make it,” said the amused voice of the man I assumed was Kash.
“I got her,” Kingston said. Before I could even object, he had leaped up the few stairs I managed to conquer and swept me up in his arms. I was so shocked that I dropped both of my bottles of Gatorade.
“Can you get those, bro?” Kingston called over his shoulder as he started up the stairs.
“What are you doing?” I asked him in confusion as I wrapped an arm around his neck. I wouldn’t put it past him to randomly drop me somewhere unpleasant.
“Relax,” Kingston murmured. “I’ve rescued damsels in distress before. I know what I’m doing.”
“For future reference,” Maverik called as he followed us up. “You should use the elevator, so we don’t have to clean your blood off the stairs after you fall and break your neck.”
