wall in an explosion of anger. It smashed into pieces, scattering bits of glass and metal all over the floor. Just in case he hadn't killed it enough, he then stomped on the remains.
I gaped at him in shock, ready to yell at him about anger management issues, but then Kody and Steele pulled out their own phones and destroyed them under their boots.
"What the fuck, you guys?" I demanded. "You just needed a new sim card. That was way too dramatic."
Archer rolled his eyes and made a scoffing noise. "Don't be an airhead, Madison Kate, you're better than that." He held out his hand like he wanted my phone.
I scowled. "Fuck you, D'Ath. I replaced my sim already; you don't need to smash my phone like a 'roid-raging ape."
His teeth ground together hard enough for me to hear, and he grabbed my wrist. A sharp tug pulled me flush against his body, and he held me tight while his other hand fished in the pocket of my pencil skirt for where I'd stashed my phone.
"Arch, let her go," Steele snapped, his voice edged with warning.
"Gladly," Archer snarled, releasing my wrist with an abrupt shove. I stumbled back a couple of steps while he crushed my phone under foot. "Kody, sort out new phones. Take care of Bree's too."
Kody let out a heavy sigh, sweeping his hand through his blonde hair. "Yeah, alright. Babe, you wanna ride back with me?"
I opened my mouth to reply, but of course Archer got there first.
"No, she's coming with me. We have some things to discuss in private." His tone was cold and dickish. Maybe I'd imagined his shift in his attitude after all because this was classic Archer D'Ath once more.
"Screw you, sunshine," I sneered back at him.
He raised a brow at me. "Really? I told you before, I'm not interested. This is getting embarrassing now, Princess."
My face flushed as my anger reached new heights.
Kody just snorted a laugh, though, and shook his head. "Keep telling yourself that, Arch. Maybe one day you'll actually believe it."
Steele smirked. "It'll be the same day that pigs fly and Zane wears lingerie."
My anger quickly morphed into amusement. Especially when Archer's glower darkened. His friends were making fun of him.
"Uh-oh, looks like the tables have turned," I mocked him.
He just scowled back at me. "Regardless, Kody, go. Time is ticking."
Kody made a sound of agreement, then stepped between Archer and me, breaking our stare-down. "He's actually right. I need to sort out these phones quickly. If your stalker hacked Bree's, he could have done a hell of a lot more than just clone her number. I'll swing past later, okay?" He smacked a quick kiss on my lips before I could protest, then shot Steele a lightning-fast look that I imagined roughly translated to "Keep an eye on our girl and don't let Archer fuck it all up again."
Or maybe it was just a look. Who knew?
He took off out of the empty range, and I leveled my stare at Steele. "Explain?"
"If our phones were compromised, then there could have been any number of spyware modifications added. Shit that doesn't get removed with a sim card." Steele didn't seem as concerned as Archer, but he was definitely worried. "There's every chance you're right that he just cloned Bree's sim to freak you out, but it's better to be safe than sorry."
My lips parted, and understanding rippled through me... closely followed by embarrassment. I should have thought of that, but it hadn't even occurred to me.
"Oh," I replied, feeling totally stupid.
Steele gave me a gentle smile. "It's okay, you couldn't have known."
"She would have if it hadn't taken a day and a half to tell us about it," Archer said, waspish as all hell. "Come on, Princess. Time to go."
He grabbed my upper arm in a tight hold, basically dragging me with him as he strode outside again. I let out a squeak of protest, but it was all I could do to keep my balance and not land on my ass in the dirt. He was damn lucky my coffee cup had a lid, or it would have spilled and then I’d be forced to remove his skin with a potato peeler.
"Arch!" Steele barked from behind us. "Hands off. Don't make me smack some manners into you like Kody did the other week."
"You could fucking try," Archer muttered, but his grip on my arm eased off before he jerked the passenger door of his car open for
