drive like that? No wonder you hit a tree.”
“Really?” I asked. “That’s what you want to say?”
“What? You’re a terrible driver.”
“Fuck you,” I said. “You said to pull over.”
“I didn’t say like that…”
“I’m on the side of the road, Talon, aren’t I?”
Oh, how does it feel to have someone under your skin?
“There’s a small dirt road ahead,” Talon said. “You should drive - slowly - up to it. Find a way to turn around so we have a quick getaway point.”
Getaway point? This is what I’ve become? Gia thinks I’m fucking Talon right now. She’s home crying over some guy named Fletcher and she thinks Talon is on top of me, making me cry out his name.
This is a fucking mess.
I drove Tank Two and did what Talon told me to do.
I then sat there and looked at him.
“Wait a second,” I said.
“What?”
“You said we’re blowing something up,” I said.
“Right. That’s what you wanted to do.”
“You don’t have anything with you,” I said.
“Your point, darling?”
I rolled my eyes. “Talon, how are you supposed to blow something up without… supplies…”
“Want to know a secret?” he asked.
“Sure,” I said.
“I’m going to blow something up using my mind,” Talon said.
“What?” I yelled.
“That’s right,” he said. “I have mental powers. I think really hard and then… boom.”
“Oh, fuck off, Talon.”
He grabbed my wrist. “I’m serious, Winter.”
I stared at him. “What…”
He nodded. “It’s a secret though.”
“You’re serious?”
“No,” he said with a laugh.
I ripped my hand away and groaned.
“You’re an idiot, Talon. You’re such a Troc.”
“And you’re such a Bump, darling,” he said. “Look forward for a second.”
I looked out the windshield.
A few seconds later I watched as two street rides flew by.
They were a quick blur.
I swallowed hard.
“Wave to Kace and Crew,” Talon whispered.
“What the fuck?” I asked. “You have other people in on this?”
“No,” Talon said. “They just did me a favor. They don’t know why. And they never need to know why. They’re good friends. You’d like them.”
“More Trocs?” I asked. “No, thank you.”
Talon laughed. “I had this all worked out, Winter. Everything was put in place. They just checked it out for me. Because I can’t be in two places at once. Got it?”
“I guess I have no choice,” I said.
“Oh, there’s always a choice,” Talon said. “Don’t play the victim card near me.”
“I am a fucking victim here,” I yelled. “They tried to kill me.”
“Sucks to be you then,” he said.
“You’re a fucking jerk,” I said.
“Yup,” Talon said as he opened his door and climbed out of Tank Two.
I took a second to myself.
He walked around the front of Tank Two and I had the vision of me running him over.
Then I could go find Noah, Easton, and Xavier and do the same.
That would settle everything.
Right?
We walked together in the middle of the night along the quiet and private road.
Then I saw where we were going.
Easton’s family had a gigantic house near the beach. Probably the biggest house that was that close to the beach. The one side of the mansion was made into some kind of beach house looking thing that sprawled all the way to the beach itself. It was beyond obnoxious.
That’s not where we were though.
Easton’s family also had a bunch of other properties. A lot of the rich people around here had the same. But Easton’s family had a large cabin tucked away in a small part of the woods.
It was so fake.
Like you were hiding in some grand forest or something.
It was nothing but a party house for Easton.
When I saw Easton’s sports car, I stopped walking.
I knew nothing about cars. Makes, models, whatever. This car was not new, though. It was probably thirty years old or more. It was kept in great shape. It was updated and customized for Easton.
“That’s what we’re blowing up?” I asked.
“That’s right,” Talon said. “You wanted to see something go boom, right?”
I looked at the cabin.
It was a two-story cabin.
There was a light on in the second-floor window to the right.
I took a deep breath of the air and thought about everything that had happened.
“Everything is set up,” Talon said. “I just have to go take care of one thing.”
“You don’t have some fancy button to press?” I asked.
“No,” Talon said. “Maybe if I was a Bump and had a bigger budget…”
“I’m the one paying you,” I said.
“You want to pay me more?” Talon asked.
“No.”
“Then quit bitching about it,” he said.
“I’m not bitching. I’m just… thinking…”
“Why think, Winter? You already know what happened. You remember everything. What are you going
