afraid right now.”

“I’m pissed at you, Talon. You fucked up.”

“How so?”

“First off, you beat up someone? You just picked some guy and beat the shit out of him?”

“What’s wrong?” Talon asked. “You have a heavy heart over it?”

“Oh, fuck you…”

Talon laughed. “What did you think this is? Playtime?”

“I don’t know.”

“Let me start there then, darling. Damon? You’re going to lose sleep over Damon? Here’s what Damon has done…”

Talon opened his mouth and then paused.

“Well?”

“Well… fuck you right back, Winter,” Talon said. “I don’t have to tell you shit.”

He turned and I lunged at him.

I grabbed his arm and clawed with all my force.

Talon turned again and his hands grabbed my hips.

He picked me up and walked me to the side of the beach house.

He held me up so we were eye level.

“You told me you wanted to do this,” Talon growled. “It’s too late now. There’s no turning back.”

His body pressed against mine.

I could have brought my knees to his balls but I didn’t.

I was… I was kind of turned on…

“Your plan didn’t work,” I whispered to him. “Noah got away with it. Nothing is going to happen. I want my money back.”

Talon brought his mouth closer to mine. “I don’t do refunds or exchanges. I’m not your favorite overpriced store where all the Bumps shop.”

“You’re just a dirty Troc. Looking for another scam to run.”

“And you’re my perfect victim, Winter.”

Talon lowered me down and backed away again.

When he walked, he went back around the house.

Once he was out of sight, I bit my lip and put my head back.

My toes curled into the sand.

I was stuck between horny and hell.

To make the night even better, Talon was now inside the beach house.

I ran through the open door and slid it shut behind me.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Nice place,” he said. “I think I stayed in something like this once. A rental. Vacation thing. Not here, of course. Where’s the booze?”

“Top cabinet,” I said. “Get a drink and leave.”

“Not until I get paid,” Talon said.

“You already got paid, Talon.”

“I told you, each time we talk, it’s a fee.”

“You didn’t do anything,” I said.

“That’s where you’re wrong,” he said.

He opened the top cabinet and grabbed a bottle.

Talon twisted the cap off and drank like it was water.

“I’m not happy with the results,” I said.

“That’s your problem.”

“What are you going to do then? Just keep threatening me by telling everyone the truth? Does anyone even believe a Troc when they talk?”

“You do,” he said.

I was even more pissed at him.

Having him come over was a big mistake.

“So, if I give you more money, will you leave?” I asked.

“Sure,” he said.

“You know what? It’s worth it. Money is nothing to me.”

I hurried to the steps and ran up them two at a time.

I went into the bedroom and dropped down to the floor and reached under the bed to get the bag with the money in it.

I grabbed another chunk of the cash and stood back up.

“Nice room, darling.”

I spun around and put the money on my nightstand.

Talon was now in my bedroom.

My entire body tingled.

I blamed the fruity drink from Gia.

“Talon…”

“I think we’re having a little miscommunication here,” he said as he put the bottle of booze down on my dresser and approached my bed.

“No,” I said. “You’re a cheater. A scammer.”

“Just like you.”

“Fine. I’m a scammer too. Who cares?”

I took a few steps along my bed and Talon closed in on me even more.

I tried to move again and bumped my legs against the bed and sat down.

Now I had Talon hovering over me.

“You don’t get it, do you?” he asked.

“Get what?”

“What did you want me to do, Winter? Just show up and punch them? Run them over?”

“Maybe. Yeah.”

“It doesn’t work that way,” Talon said.

“Then how does it work?”

Talon slowly put his hands to the bed.

I inched back.

I wasn’t sure what was happening… were we flirting? Was this more than that? Was I…

My teeth chattered as Talon brushed his lips to my cheek.

“Listen to me, darling,” he whispered. “Damon deserved that beating. He had been doing some shit that wasn’t approved of. That beating was happening one way or another. Okay? It just so happened things worked out the way they did.”

Talon touched my left leg.

My leg jumped and my hands gripped the bedsheets.

Talon’s lips touched mine but he didn’t kiss me.

“As far as what I did… you need to think of the bigger game here.”

“What game?” I asked, almost breathless.

Talon’s left hand moved over my leg to my inner
