Fake Love - Jaxson Kidman Page 0,36
saw Xavier wiping his hands and staring right at me.
He then started to walk from the garage.
Still in his sleeveless shirt.
Veins throbbed from his hands to his biceps.
Not that I was into that kind of thing, but on him…
Mixed with the black as night eyes…
What are you doing here, Winter? This guy wanted to see you dead.
I started to walk toward him.
“All done for you,” he said. “It wasn’t too bad. You’ll never know it happened.”
I nodded. “Cool. Thanks.”
“Don’t worry about it. And you said it was Reid, right?”
“Yeah. I don’t think many guys around here drive those kind of rides, right?”
“Not usually,” Xavier said. “I’ll have one of my guys bring your SUV back out.”
“Okay. You still didn’t tell me why you did this, Xavier. Don’t tell me you’re being nice either. I’ve heard things.”
“Have you?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“Well, maybe somewhere inside me there is a small spot that has a heart. A very small spot.”
“So this is pity?” I asked.
“So what if it is? Would you rather me tell you I’m secretly in love with you and this is me trying to pick you up?”
“What?” I yelled.
I felt heat race to my cheeks.
Xavier let out a pffft sound. “Come on, Winter, get real. Whatever is going on in your head, it’s wrong.”
“I don’t remember anything… remember?” I asked.
“Don’t go by everything you hear,” Xavier said. “Make your own decisions.”
“Wow. You fix cars and give advice, huh?”
“Imagine what else I can do,” Xavier said.
He looked over his shoulder as Tank Two was backed out of the garage.
I couldn’t tell if Xavier was flirting with me or threatening me.
Xavier led the way to Tank Two and when I saw the work he had done, I was impressed. I couldn’t see where anything had happened.
“So you’re rich as fuck but work on cars,” I said. “That seems strange.”
“Why?”
“I mean, you can do anything you want. Buy anything you want. Be lazy. Travel. I don’t know…”
“So you think working on cars is for someone who is, what, poor? Or better yet… you think it is a Troc gig?”
“I didn’t say that,” I said.
“You implied it.”
“How about you just tell me why you like working on cars?”
Xavier got close to me again. “You never know when it might come in handy.”
Like when you tried to kill me?
I felt those words tickling the back of my throat.
Then I saw Xavier’s eyes move and I quickly whipped my head around.
Noah was now approaching us.
Like I said, where there was one, the others would soon follow.
“Looks good,” Noah said as he walked around Tank Two with his hands in his dark tan slacks.
He had a perfectly white, no-creased shirt tucked into those slacks.
The top three buttons of the shirt were undone, showing off nothing under the shirt.
He looked scary handsome, which was not for his own good.
He kept looking from Tank Two to me.
Back and forth.
“Nothing major,” Xavier said. “Other than the panic.”
“Panic?” I asked.
“You said you freaked out a little,” Xavier said.
“That’s what Xavier said to me,” Noah said.
“Oh, good, so you all talked about it? I feel special.”
“Maybe you should,” Noah said. He stopped walking and took his hands out of his pockets. “You’re not in a rush, are you?”
“Not sure, why?” I asked.
“Need you to follow me,” Noah said.
I laughed. “Yeah, right.”
“Why not?” Xavier asked.
I felt him right behind me as I stared at Noah.
Fuck, fuck, fuck… they’re testing me here…
“I want to go home and relax,” I said.
“You can,” Noah said. “Soon. You’re going to want to see this, Winter. I promise. It’s worth it.”
“Listen to him,” Xavier whispered in a growl.
Again, I couldn’t tell what was flirting and what was threatening.
“Okay,” I said. “Fine. Whatever.”
Noah nodded to Xavier.
They both walked away together to Noah’s car.
That custom car…
I gasped when I realized it was a different car.
This car was all white with black windows.
The other car was the one Talon had hit the with tire thingy that was hidden in the back of Tank Two.
My knees felt a little wobbly as I climbed behind the wheel.
I started to drive and followed Noah as he drove himself and Xavier.
I was left the obvious and logical question…
Where was Easton?
I knew right where they were taking me.
Of course, I would have to play stupid to keep my cover.
The road twisted and turned and also climbed in elevation.
We weren’t near the ocean so much, but going up a ridge where parties were often held. There were plenty of spots within the trees to hang out, drink, listen
