Fairy Tales and Cappuccinos (Everyday Love #1) - Taylor Rylan Page 0,63

I’ll make do until the beginning of the year, and now is definitely not the time to try to hire someone. They’d quit in a day.”

I snorted. It was true though. Seasonal help was a thing, but finding someone that could work with the public during the crazy holiday season could be a challenge.

“Okay, so we’re hiring two new employees?”

“For now at least. Remember when I said we’d renegotiate your salary? I know I still can’t compete with what you were making working for your family. But even if things don’t work out between us on a personal level, I hope that we can remain on friendly enough terms to continue working together.”

I blinked a few times before looking back at the paperwork. “Do you expect us to not work? You’ve mentioned that a few times recently, and it’s a bit concerning.”

“I hope we will. I’ll admit that I’m really falling for you. As in, I miss you when you’re not here, and I’m not talking about just the sex. Although that’s always amazing.”

I agreed. Sex with Hudson was damn good. And there was no use in sticking around if the sex was bad because eventually, that led to other problems.

“Okay, sex aside,” I chuckled a bit and had to bite my lip to continue. “I don’t have plans on going anywhere. Although I would like to have more free time to spend with you outside of work. But aren’t you worried that we’ll get tired of one another? I mean, we work together, and we’re dating each other. That’s a lot of togetherness.” It was. Hudson hadn’t annoyed me, and as of yet, I hadn’t discovered any annoying habits or traits, but we were still in the getting to know each other stage.

“True. Some couples make it work. My grandparents did. They were definitely relationship goals. And I’m not saying I expect you to not look for something else. I know your degree isn’t in management or anything like that, but I’m hoping you can be enticed to stick around for a while longer. I can’t do both sides by myself—”

“Hudson, stop.” I tossed the papers on the coffee table and crawled over to him. I could tell he was working himself up, and I didn’t want that. I kept crawling until I was straddling his lap, and he moved over a bit, allowing room for my right knee. “I’m not going anywhere, silly. Yes, I love marketing and public relations. And I’m still doing that to some extent, but I don’t have to do just that. I’m quite capable of running Cappuccinos for you if that’s what you want.”

“I want. That’s what the paperwork is for. It’s a proposal of employment, but more. It’s all contingent on how the Cappuccinos does over the next couple of months.”

“Hey, don’t stress over this,” I said and covered Hudson’s mouth with my finger again. “I’ll look over it and let you know tomorrow, okay?”

“You don’t have to rush. But I know that you need to have the authority to make decisions there without always coming to me for answers. I have a business degree, but I don’t know anything about what you do really. My first and only job was Fairy Tales.”

I smiled at that. My parents had wanted me to work at Clifton’s, but they didn’t want to pay me for my time. I said no way and got a job at a local coffeehouse. I was happy to have the time away and the pay, even if it wasn’t much.

“I’m not after your store, Hudson. I hope you don’t think I am. I was only trying to help you see more potential in it. Not that Fairy Tales wasn’t doing good before.”

Hudson snorted. “I was slowly sinking and had been for a few years. But while Grandma was still around, she was the one making the decisions. I’d suggested some things but mostly was met by a firm no. I’ve spent the last year doing what cosmetic updates I could. It’s taken a lot of work to make things look more modern but at the same time, keeping things charmingly small-town.”

“Well, I’d say you’ve done a very good job.” I leaned in and kissed Hudson’s cheek before I moved to his ear. “And I’m more than willing to take things one day at a time, both professionally and personally.”

I rolled my hips, which was a total dick move because I wasn’t staying. But Hudson moaned and grabbed my ass,
