didn’t think it was possible, but Hudson got even cuter when he was a bit shy. How was that possible?
“I’ll pack a bag. See you,” I said. I leaned in and gave Hudson a quick kiss before I pulled out of his arms and left. If I didn’t, I’d end up staying and we’d never make it on our first date. We’d been together for a couple of weeks now and still no date. Chris found it comical, and I kind of did as well.
The drive home was quick, and I was actually surprised to see Chris still dressed when I walked inside.
“Hey. I’m glad you’re here. I’m headed out. Don’t wait up for me, okay?” Chris said.
“Umm, okay. That’s great. Hudson is picking me up in a few. We’re finally going to have that first date.”
“About damn time,” Chris joked with a huge smile on his face.
“Right? Although, I give him props. He’s been super attentive even without the date.”
“No way. I have to say, I like your guy. I think he’s good for you. And if he makes you smile like he does, then that’s all I need. I approve, Sawyer.”
“Don’t make me get teary before my date. I haven’t been on a date in I don’t know how long.”
Chris laughed. “Actually, you two already had your first date. You just don’t realize it. I gotta go. I’m meeting someone, and hopefully I’m much more relaxed when I get home. See you this weekend sometime,” Chris said and started toward the garage.
“Hey,” I said, stopping him. When he looked at me, he gave me a small smile. “Just be careful, okay?”
“I will. I’ve seen this guy before. He’s not going to hurt me.”
I nodded, and with one last smile, Chris was gone. I stood there for just a few more seconds before I went to my bedroom and grabbed my weekend bag. One of the great things about having the job I used to was the travel. I had all of the luggage I could ever need. Which had certainly been useful since the move.
I packed enough stuff for the weekend since it was Friday night and most likely I’d end up at Hudson’s tomorrow night as well and was just tossing my bathroom stuff in with it when the doorbell rang.
I zipped the weekend bag and went to answer the door. I found a sexy Hudson on the other side, and he was holding a mug of something warm in his hands.
“Good evening, sexy. I’m here to take you on our first date,” he said, handing over the mug. A quick sniff told me it was hot chocolate, and I took a tentative sip. It was perfect and obviously homemade and not from a powder.
“Come in for a few. I need to change my boots. You must have left right after I did.”
“I waited about ten minutes. Which is how long it takes to make homemade hot chocolate. What do you think?”
I took another sip and moaned. “I think you’re going to get lucky tonight.”
“That was the hope. But it’s not a requirement, you know.” Hudson wrapped his arms around my waist, keeping me from leaving the entryway.
“I know. But I’m also twenty-eight, and now that I’m not physically and mentally exhausted all the time, I’m horny as fuck. It doesn’t help that my boyfriend is sexy as hell and I happen to work with him. He’s always bending down, picking up boxes and doing sexy stuff like that.”
“Darn boyfriends. Do I need to have a talk with him?” he teased.
I shook my head. “Here, hold this. It’s good and I want to drink it, but I need to change into my boots.” I handed Hudson the cup and went back to the bedroom and came out with my boots. I’d thrown my shoes I was wearing in the bag and dropped it beside the couch where I sat to change my shoes.
“This is a cute house.”
“It is. Chris bought it about a year ago now. He’s worked really hard since we graduated to save up to buy it. He was lucky like me and his parents paid for his college, so he didn’t have student loans. They weren’t exactly happy when he didn’t move back to Breckenridge, but they’re not too upset since he’s under four hours away.” I laced up and tied my second boot, and after I fixed my pant legs, I stood up, grabbing the bag on the way.
