hours per week.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Smart business.”

They walked into the apartment an hour later, bags of fast food in hand, and Brett was fairly impressed. The furnishings were very modern and minimalist, nothing antique or austere. She glanced at Ethan, who seemed moderately pleased. “So, do we need to get a moving van?”

He smirked. “No, I can live with this. What do you think? You’ve obviously got a designer’s eye.”

She nodded. “Well, I don’t know much about your personal tastes, but if I was decorating for a bachelor pad without much insight, this is the way I’d go.”

He turned to face her, tilting his head in question. “What makes you think I’m a bachelor?”

“Maybe you’re not,” she said as she swiveled around to be in front of him, looking up and facing him directly. “Or maybe you are. Regardless, a girl can hope, can’t she?” she said tracing her finger over his chest. He was so close she could smell the wind on his skin, the hint of cologne beneath the fresh sweat of a ride. She spun around and made her way to the dining table, take-out in hand, knowing he stood in place, his eyes tracing all over her body. This game was so fun!

She pulled out a chair, sat down, and leaned back into it. Legs crossed, she looked up to him as he stared back at her. “Let’s eat Ethan, I’m getting hungry after the ride. Or are you waiting for a house warming gift before we eat?”

He gave her a devilish grin, and she knew he was game. “What kind of gift were you thinking about?” He said as he moved towards the food on the couch. This man was so deliberate in his movements that he had her attention captivated. Her eyes saw the way his forearm flexed when he grabbed the food. His thick thighs and broad shoulders moved in a dance that kept her dreaming about how they would feel against her body. He walked around from behind her, so close but not touching. And kept walking, until he was on the other side of the table, and not beside her.

He was good.

He gave her an all knowing look, and continued, “I wasn’t expecting a gift when I came here, and I don’t really like gifts in the first place, I like to earn everything I want instead.” His eyes pierced her as he ripped the paper bag open, locked in and not moving, gauging her every move. Was he challenging her?

With nerves of steel but a heart beating faster than an F1 engine, she calmed herself through deliberate movements, first taking out the food out of the bag. Then the chopsticks, then the condiments that came with it. She tidied up the paper bag, folded and put to the side, before she looked back up, clearing up her thoughts, and ready to come back in with full force.

She stretched out her leg, touching his, and dragged it up as she said, “I wasn’t planning on giving anything either, but it felt like you were waiting for one. How about this? I’ll give you a ride on my Harley after we’re done here? How does that sound?”

His nostrils flared and an expression flashed through him that she couldn’t read, and suddenly she wasn’t sure how well he would take this. She pulled her leg back from his. Maybe she took it too far? They both opened their food containers and started eating. Yeah, maybe that was a low-blow for a biker, she shouldn’t have said that. A bike’s back seat is sacred place to them, reserved usually only for their old ladies.

“I wouldn’t mind a ride,” he said, “but I have a strong grip, and I don’t know if you’ll be able to handle me from behind.”

That surprised her, she wasn’t expecting that kind of a reply. “Well, I don’t know if you’d be able to hang on, I ride really rough.”

He threw his head back in a deep, hearty laugh. “That was some reply.” And continued laughing. Brett blushed so hard she felt like her cheeks were on fire. She wished the ground would swallow her up before her desire took control again and she kept saying crazy shit. She just thought back to the things she said and started laughing as well. “You’re something else, Ethan.”

“Well, I’ll take that as a compliment. I don’t think I’ve flirted with someone like that, ever. So thank you for that,” he said,
