in the jaw.”

Jayden smirks. “You know what you need?”

“A Glock?”

The two of them snicker, but a big part of me isn’t kidding. “No, asshole. A party.”

Being around a ton of people I can barely stand is probably a bad idea, but going home is an even worse one. Besides, I could use a drink, or nine.

“Yeah, fuck it. Where at?”

Bryce’s grin widens. “Josslyn’s.”

I throw my head back and groan loudly. Josslyn and I have a shared history—one that begins and ends between the sheets. She’s not the worst person to be around, but ever since I broke up with her a couple months ago, things have been weird. To be honest, I got bored, but she doesn’t seem to know when to quit. She still throws herself at me every chance she gets. Sometimes I indulge her, if I don’t have anyone better to focus my attention on. As long as she isn’t super clingy, I should be able to stand her for one night.

“Fuck me.”

Jayden chuckles. “I’m sure she’d be happy to.”

AFTER GRABBING A SHOWER at Bryce’s, I throw on a fresh pair of shorts and white tee with palm trees up the side. Staring at my reflection, I swoop my brown hair out of my face. It’s not too out of control, but long enough to get in my eyes. I spray myself with his I’m trying too hard cologne and walk out the door. Both of them are ready to go and waiting for me in the living room.

“Okay, let’s get this shit-show on the road.”

We all head out of the house but Bryce stops to laugh at me. “You know, you didn’t have to make that big of an attempt. She would have fucked you even if you smelled like B.O.”

I roll my eyes and push him forward. “Shut up, douche.”

My ex’s house isn’t far, and it only takes a ten-minute drive before we’re pulling up to the house. Her parents must be away for a while, because this is bigger than the usual parties she has when they’re expected home anytime soon. There’s barely even room to park, so I pull partially onto the front lawn. It’ll probably start a trend and ruin the grass, but I don’t give a fuck.

I pull the key from the ignition and the three of us pour out of the Jeep. Some familiar faces greet us as we make our way inside, but others just stand there, staring with their jaws dropped. I wink at one girl who may as well be drooling, making her drink fall out of her hand and spill onto the floor. Sophomores.

“Look who it is,” a sickeningly sweet voice meets my ears. I turn around to see Josslyn. She’s wearing a black dress that doesn’t leave much to the imagination, and enough makeup to look like a cheap hooker. “Never thought I’d see you here tonight.”

I shrug. “What can I say? I could use a drink.”

She smirks and wraps her hands around my bicep. “By all means then, let’s get you one.”

REMEMBER WHEN I HOPED that my ex wouldn’t act like a stage-five clinger? Yeah, wishful thinking. I can’t seem to figure out if it’s because I’ve been avoiding her for the past few weeks, or because she thinks I came here for her, but she’s been trying to dig her talons into me all damn night. Thankfully, Jayden took mercy on me and broke a window, pulling her attention away from me and giving me an escape.

We start to head back to my car when I come face to face with the one asshat I can’t stand more than my mother right now. Kellan Spencer. He’s one of those douchebags from the prep school in North Haven. Rich, entitled, and a royal pain in my ass. He and I actually used to be friends at one point in time, until I beat him at a surfing competition when we were ten. All the lessons his parents bought him, and I was still better. No amount of money could have changed that.

Kellan couldn’t seem to accept that I just had more drive and determination than he did. Instead, he insisted I cheated. He stopped talking to me and eventually stopped surfing all together—focusing on football and other sports where he actually stood a chance at winning.

What the fuck is he doing here?

“Out of my way, scumbag,” he sneers, his arm draped across the shoulders of some brunette.

I laugh dryly and step directly in his
