The Enemy Duet - M.E. Clayton Page 0,87

hi to Juanita and Sarah as he took a seat. “How long have you been here?”

I shrugged a shoulder, trying to act cool. “Not long,” I answered.

His swiveled around. “Where’s Fiona?”

“Dancing with Phillip Jansen,” I said, a huge smile on my face.

Tommy looked behind him and his brows snapped inward. “Uh, Vicky…”

I turned in my chair just in time to see Damien Greystone dragging Fiona out of the gym. Tommy forgotten, I jumped up out of my seat and ran across the dance floor. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen Damien put his hands on Fiona, and I was not having it.

Halfway across the dance floor, I was suddenly grabbed around my waist and yanked towards the back of the bleachers. Once I was underneath the bleachers, I went full-blown ninja. I started kicking and punching and giving my captor everything I had. I didn’t care if I was wearing a dress.

“Goddamn it, would you stop?!”

I knew that voice.

“Get your hands off me, William Creston, or I swear I will kick you in your nuts!”

“Jesus, Stems, calm the hell down,” he muttered.

I stopped struggling, but I was still mad as hell. “Where is he taking her, Will?”

I stopped struggling, but he hadn’t let go of me completely. He had his hand wrapped around my arm, pinning me against the wall. His intense brown eyes stared me down. “She shouldn’t have been dancing with Phillip, Vic,” he said, and I had no clue what the heck he meant by that.

“Fiona can dance with whoever she wants, Will,” I argued.

Will shook his head. “No, she can’t, Vee.”

My eyes narrowed. “Don’t call me Vee,” I spat. “We’re not friends, Will.”

He pressed his lips together and I knew he was trying to hold on to his temper, but I didn’t care. I was too worried about Fiona to care about whether or not Will was mad. “Look, Stems,” he started, “friends or not, if you go after Fiona right now, while Damien is pissed, it’s not going to end well for you.”

“Why is he pissed?” I asked. “He can’t stand her, Will. Why does he care if she’s dancing with someone, or not?”

Will shook his head again. “I can’t answer that, Vicky. All I know is there’s no rhyme or reason where those two are concerned. I’m just trying to keep you from making a big mistake.” He shrugged a shoulder. “Besides, Damien won’t hurt her.”

I laughed. “What are you talking about? He hurts her all the damn time!”

“I mean, physically, hurt her,” he clarified.

“Let me go,” I said through my clenched teeth.

“If you-”

I didn’t let him finish. I had to make him believe I wouldn’t go after Fiona. “I need to get back to Tommy,” I told him.

I saw a small tick in his jaw. His eyes narrowed. “Tommy Granger?” I nodded. “Stay away from Tommy, Stems. He’s not a good dude.”

“Takes a jerk to know a jerk, is that it?” I didn’t wait around for his answer. I shook his hand off my arm and went looking for Fiona.

Chapter 3

Why does this remind me of the dance?

Victoria – (16-Years-Old)~

I knew this party was a bad idea. And I knew the only reason Fiona came with me tonight was because she knew how hard I was crushing on Ben Lester.

Fiona and I rarely attended any school parties because we both knew there’d be a good chance Damien and his brood would be there. His bullying hadn’t eased up in all these years, so there was no telling what he’d get up to if he ran into Fiona at an unchaperoned party. And, normally, I never would have asked her to come to this party with me, but I really liked Ben and I had heard that Damien wasn’t going to be here. Ryland Oberman didn’t run around with Damien, so it made sense that he wouldn’t be here.

I looked over at Fiona, and she looked like she wanted to throw up. “Are you sure you’re okay with being here, Fee?”

She waved away my concerns. “Yeah, Vee. We’re juniors in high school. We need to start doing things like this more often.”

I grabbed her arms and jumped up and down using them as leverage. I was so glad she was willing to try even if I knew it was causing her some serious anxiety. “Yay! Let’s mingle and see if he’s here yet.”

We wandered through the house, stopping here and there to talk to the few people we knew. Sure, I had the
