was CEO along with Will’s oldest son, Brian. He wasn’t married yet, but his girlfriend was serious, and she was a sweet, sweet girl. We didn’t pressure them. We weren’t those kinds of parents. Whatever made them happy made us happy.
Lucy had fallen in love and put her degree in psychology on hold to give us four wonderful grandchildren. Sure her plan was to give her husband four beautiful and healthy kids, but they were just parents, we were the grandparents. Our titles held more power. She had every intention of returning to school to finish her degree, but even if she didn’t, her husband was solid and took very good care of his family.
Thirty-two years later, our lives were just years, and years of endless blessings. And I never regretted one second of the life I lived.
“So, what do you want to do since the boys are being meanies and you don’t want to play with your sister?”
He wrinkled his little nose. “I can’t play with her. She doesn’t do anything but sit there and move her arms and legs all over the place. She’s boring, G-Pop.”
I carried him over to one of the chairs on the patio as I looked out at my family barbecuing, swimming in the pool, and visiting. “Well, she’s just a baby, there’s not much she can do.” Our grandchildren ran the age range of eight, six, four and three months. Lucy had given us three boys and a baby girl.
“Well, she’s still boring,” he complained.
“So, what do you want to do?”
He sat in my lap with his little legs dangling over my thighs looking up at me. He looked just like Lucy. “Tell me a story.”
“What kind of story? A scary story or a happy story?”
His eyes rounded with the best idea he’s had in all his four years of life. “Can you tell me a story that is scary and happy?”
I widened my eyes at him. “I sure can.”
“Okay, but just tell me. The Brothers can’t hear it since they won’t let me play with them. This is my story, okay, G-Pop?”
Christ, this kid. I laughed. “Okay, Monkey Boy, this is just your story.”
“Okay,” he snuggled up to me, “I’m ready.”
“Once upon a time there was this little boy who was sad all the time because he lived in a dark, dark castle. Then one day he was walking in the woods, and he saw a little girl who was so beautiful she made all the darkness go away. He didn’t think she would like him because he was so sad, but she did more than end up liking him. She ended up loving him and protecting him from the darkness.”
And she still did.
The End.

Just a couple of things before I let you go and get your read on. While I am doing my best to work with better editing and proofreading software, all my books are solo, independent works. I write my books, proofread my books, edit my books, create the covers, etc. I have one beta who gives me feedback on my stories, but other than that, all my books are independent projects.
