The Enemy Duet - M.E. Clayton Page 0,126

City if the men in this city looked anything like this one. “Only if Mr. Creston allows it.”

My heart warmed and I realized, for all his dickish ways, Damien Greystone wasn’t a total demon from Hell. He placed me in a very important position on the G&C hierarchy.

“Speaking of Will,” I replied, “is it alright if I go up now?”

The guard handed me a security card. “You can use the private elevators off to the right of the lobby and down the hall.”

I glanced at his name tag. “Thank you, Gerald. I really appreciate it.”

“Most everyone is gone for the evening, so don’t get too spooked walking up and down those hallways,” he joked.

I laughed. “Great. Now I’m going to be creeped out.”

His smile was genuine. “You’ll be fine.”

I took step before realizing something. “How will I know which one is his office?”

“Once you get into the elevator, hit the W.C. button. That will take you directly to his floor. Once you exit the elevator, you step into an open reception area with a hallway entrance to your right. Go down that hallway and keep going until you hit the end of the hallway. You’ll see his name on his door.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Ms. McGrath.”

Not being able to stall any longer, I made my way to the private elevators and pushed the elegantly engraved button with the initials W.C. on it. The ride up was fraught with nothing but anxiousness, but nothing great ever came from a coward, right?

The elevator doors finally opened, and it was eerie just how creepy an office building could be after hours. I shook off my heebie-jeebies and made my way down the hallways as Gerald instructed, and, sure enough, there at the end of the hallway was a door with William Creston’s name all over it.

The butterflies were out of control as my feet took me towards what could be the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me or the biggest mistake of my life.

There was no in between.

I didn’t come all this way to leave just as confused as when I left California. Will and I were going to iron this mess out and reach a clearer understanding of what the hell we were doing.

Stopping in front of his door, I took a deep breath and put my hand on the doorknob.

It was now or never.

I turned the knob and walked in, and the punch to my chest was all my fault.

I saw all the magazine covers.

I saw how he went through girls in school.

I knew what he was like in bed and I was foolish to ever think that William Creston would be satisfied with having sex every other weekend.

I knew better and I fell for his bullshit anyway.

I stood there as I saw a pair of male hands encasing a pair of spectacular female hips. It was obvious the man was crouched down in front of the woman, and there was only one reason a man would be in that position in front of a woman.

Before I could say anything, the woman said, “She’s going to kill us, if she finds out.”

“Relax,” Will’s voice was clear. “She’ll never know.”

Chapter 22

This. Is. Not. Happening.

William~

Christ on The Cross.

If Simone would only hold fucking still, we could get this done and over with before Nalia came back. They were supposed to attend a fundraiser tonight as representatives of G&C tonight and Simone had smudged some chocolate on her dress while Nalia had run back to her office to grab our donation list.

At first, I had laughed because, serves her right for raiding my candy stash, but when I looked over at her, she had looked genuinely panicked. They didn’t have time to run back to their apartment, so she could change, so I had grabbed some club soda from the free-standing bar I had in my office and a cloth to try to get out the smudge. But she had been in such a state, I had to grabbed her and hold the nutjob still.

“She’s going to kill us, if she finds out,” Simone grimaced.

“Relax. She’ll never know,” I promised.

And then, out of nowhere, a voice I’ve only been hearing in my dreams and on the phone lately, said, “Am I interrupting?”

I stood and looked passed Simone as she looked back over her shoulder. The look on Vicky’s face matched the ice in her tone and I knew her mind was jumping to a very wrong conclusion. The disgust written all over her
