Endless Lies (Lies #6) - Ella Miles Page 0,2

I don’t know what I’d do if they started crying or begging for food. I know the nurse thought she was giving me a sweet moment alone with my babies, but how ignorant of her to think that I would know what to do. She didn’t even check my bracelet; she just assumed that since I was a man outside of surgery that I must be the father.

“What do I do with the three of you?” I say, looking at each of them.

I remember Mr. Dunn’s words. If the baby is a girl, kill her. If it’s a boy, bring him to me.

I stare at each of them as a plan forms in my head. Maybe one of us can heal after all? And sooner than I think.

Carefully, I stand up, balancing the three babies in my arms. I lay them down on the bed. I don’t know much about babies, but I don’t think they can move or roll much at this age, so I’m not too worried about them falling off the bed.

I walk over to the computer in the corner and use my badge to scan in. I want to make Liesel and her father suffer, and the best way to do that is to kill them—all of them.

But since I have no intention of actually killing the babies, I’ll just make them think they are dead.

I pull up Liesel’s chart and start typing furiously in, trying to sound as medical and objective as I can so my ruse will be believed.

I type out the babies died just after birth. The funeral home already received them for cremation.

Now, to get out of here without being seen.

One baby would be hard enough to sneak out, but three? It’s going to be impossible.

I unzip my jacket before snuggling two of the babies inside. The third I scoop up and hold in my hands.

My objective is to exit the building as fast as I can. I saw an emergency exit stairwell at the end of the hall—that’s my goal.

I run out into the hallway, jogging fast and determined—so fast I don’t notice the boy rounding the corner. I smack into him. The baby in my hands falls into his arms.

He catches the baby, completely confused.

I make a rash decision. The boy doesn’t know there are three babies. I can still get out of here with the other two.

“Congratulations on becoming a father,” I say, and then I run out the exit door and down the stairs, cradling the two babies beneath my jacket.

I burst through the final door and out into the bright sunlight before jogging to my truck.

No sooner have I climbed into the car do I hear him.

“Did you do it? Do you have the baby?” Mr. Dunn asks from behind me.

Fuck.

Of course, he didn’t think I was loyal to him. He needed to be here to ensure I behaved and did as I was told.

Both babies are somehow still asleep beneath my jacket.

I consider my options carefully.

I can still get away with keeping one—the girl.

I can give him the boy.

I don’t have a choice.

Reluctantly, I reach into my jacket and spot the blue blanket surrounding the boy. I pull him out and hand him to the dangerous man behind me.

“You—you aren’t going to kill him, are you?” I ask, even though I know it’s not my place, and he probably won’t answer me.

“Why would I kill such a perfect boy? He’s going to ensure my name lives on.”

Then he climbs out of the car with the boy I had no intention of giving up.

I’ll get him back, I vow. The kids are all innocent. Mr. Dunn and his daughter are not.

Liesel has the other boy.

I’ll get them all back.

I’ll get my revenge.

For now, my sister has a child to raise. A child who might help her heal.

My body bounces harshly in the front seat of the truck. My body thumps into the window as my ass rises and falls with the truck taking the bumps too quickly.

“You still with me?” Maxwell asks from the driver’s seat.

“Like you give a damn if I live or die.”

“I do, actually, since it’s my job to keep you alive long enough to deliver you back to your friends. After that, I don’t give a damn if what you do.”

“Turn us around and go back to the airport. I need to get back to Liesel.”

Maxwell laughs. “If I turn this car around or slow down in the slightest, you won’t be breathing
