Elemental Compass - Jaymin Eve Page 0,74
becomes reality."
My gaze slid across Jacob. "In more ways than one."
I was a total sap these days, but shit, if a girl couldn't feel all the softer emotions when she finds her true mate, parents, and a destiny that includes being a princess, then when could she feel them?
"Better than any fantasy," Jacob said, his eyes that smooth rich green that reminded me of forests and life.
"Stop distracting me with your face," I scolded him, digging deep to find the snarky fire that had gotten me through life. He was turning me into a romance-movie-watching-love-sick-fool.
And I kinda like it.
Jacob grinned, and if anything that only turned up the distraction. Bastard.
The bridge continued, keeping us occupied as we sprinted our way along it.
"Step-throughs are so much easier," Tyson complained, looking frustrated that his magic had failed him for once. Dude was way too used to being the most powerful. "If this is the old school way, then I’m not sad we’ve evolved past it."
The bridge had widened enough now that we were all running in a line, side by side.
Grace made an annoyed noise. “This is probably the very first path our ancestors took when they crossed to Earth,” she said to her mate. “The Atlanteans, and any others that made the journey. Have some respect."
"What's happening with the Atlanteans?" Jacob asked.
I knew the basic story about the earliest supes to cross to Earth, the fey magic-user hybrids that were super powerful. Many of them died when their land was sunk by the gods, but lately there had been rumors swirling about them.
"Last I heard there were signs of Atlantis rising," Tyson said shortly. "That news filtered through when we crossed to Faerie. Anything could have happened since then.”
Grace nodded. “Yeah, Louis was heading to help out with their drama. He said he’d be going between the two places to keep everything functioning.”
Tyson snorted. “Damn sorcerer. Thinks he’s so important.”
“He is,” Grace replied drily. “You might have the power, but he has power and experience.”
Tyson looked like he wanted to argue, but she shot him a look that ended with a shake of his head, and his mouth shut.
Jacob’s lips twitched as he watched his brother get shut down by the one supe who could. “Hopefully there’s no Atlantean drama,” he said to break the tension. “We haven’t even dealt with our current situation.”
“What if this ley line drama is Atlantean?” Tyson asked all of a sudden. “We just assumed president, but there’s no empirical evidence to base that on.”
Jacob shot his brother a measured stare. “You know, that’s very true. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.”
The Compasses just took it in their stride, one world-ending drama after another. I would never begrudge having a Compass as a true mate—I loved how strong and powerful Jacob was. I loved the close family ties and pack like bond, but they certainly came with plenty of danger.
"I don't know how your brothers do it," I said softly. "Having children and constantly dealing with end-of-the-world situations. It must be fucking terrifying."
I was terrified for their little ones, and barely even knew them.
Jacob met my gaze, his eyes sorrowful; he’d read between the lines of what I’d said. "It is scary," he said softly, reaching out a hand to grasp mine. "But they wouldn't change a thing. Compass children are born into one of the strongest packs in the world, and every single one of us would die for our young."
"Not to mention our babies are powerful on their own," Tyson added. "Pretty sure they're the next generation that will be saving the world. You know. When the time comes."
His eyes twinkled as he wiggled his eyebrows at Grace. "Wanna make a baby?"
She narrowed her gaze on him. "Timing, Ty. You got no timing."
He shrugged. "Time works for me, not the other way around."
Grace tilted her head, screwing up her face as she searched for patience, no doubt. "I just— that's not how that works, mate."
Tyson shrugged again, all suave, because he clearly wasn't afraid of anything. Cocky should have been their middle names. All of them.
Jacob squeezed my hand, drawing my attention firmly to him. "We don't have to worry about the possibility of having a child for a long time," he said softly. “We’re in no rush.”
It should have freaked me out how confident he was in our relationship, like it was inevitable, but I felt the same. When you knew, you just knew.
"We live very long lives," he continued, his musical voice
