prove Kai wrong.”
We’d reached a stalemate. With his dark gaze locked on me, and with my chest heaving against his, I knew the exact moment my will weakened.
“If I kiss you, that’ll be the end of it?” I asked, which prompted Paulo to shrug.
“Or the beginning,” he shot back with a smirk, “but that depends on how things go, right?”
I swear, the more he spoke, the more my body warmed.
Peering around Paulo’s massive arm, I locked eyes with Rayen as a gentle breeze pushed his curls over his broad shoulders.
Why did the universe have it out for me? How the heck was I supposed to resist any of them?
“And then what?” I asked, peering back up at Paulo. “I’m supposed to kiss him, too?”
Not surprising me at all, Paulo grinned and shrugged. “Do you have any idea how many girls would kill to be you right now?”
“Don’t flatter yourself,” I scoffed, despite knowing he’d spoken the truth.
He laughed—a deep, soul-stirring sound that was sexy as sin. “One kiss,” he reminded me. “Well … two,” he amended, nodding toward Rayen, who’d be next up depending on how things went. “Then, after that, we can all walk away like nothing happened if that’s what you want.”
Our eyes locked again, and I couldn’t help but to roll mine when I took in his smug expression. To say that I felt uneasy about this didn’t even begin to touch on the anxiety that had me quivering. However, in addition to the anxiety … I felt drawn to them. All of them.
I sighed, pretending this was a far bigger burden than it truly was. “Fine, but if—”
Soft lips pressed to mine and I forgot how to breathe. Very quickly, the tone of our encounter shifted, starting with my inability to keep my hands to myself. Within seconds, I had Paulo’s shoulders squeezed in my palms, and my body arched toward his, an action to which he didn’t object. Actually, I think he took it as the invitation it was. A point he proved when both his palms traveled down from my waist to my butt, where he squeezed me just hard enough to make me gasp as he brought me closer.
There were distinct differences between kissing him and kissing Kai. For one, where Kai had been passionate, Paulo was hungry, leaving me to feel like he’d devour me completely if I’d let him.
And … being honest, I definitely thought about letting him.
Heat moved upward through my body, forming a knot at my core. I felt dizzy, all the while screaming at myself not to let him touch me this way, not to let him own me like he’d done. Only, my body highly objected.
Instead, I just leaned into him deeper, amazed at how our lips moved together, like we’d done this a thousand times before.
He finally eased his grip, and when he did, we stood staring at one another, panting in disbelief. He’d just made me eat my own words, having suggested that the sensation that shot through me when Kai and I kissed had been a onetime thing. Seeing traces of Paulo’s dragon now as it retreated meant it had been the same for him.
I was confused, lightheaded, and super turned on. Biting down on my lip, I fought the urge to go at it with him again, but I composed myself.
“This can’t … I—”
Speechless, Paulo gave up trying to get words out. His beautiful eyes blinked at me in amazement, letting a single finger trail down the center of my lips.
He felt it too.
Not bothering with trying to speak again, he simply held on to me as his solid chest rose and fell with each breath he took. My gaze shifted to Rayen, and I was admittedly curious to see if this feeling really was possible with all four of my guardians.
Even Ori.
Without me having to ask, Rayen came closer, taking Paulo’s place, and I couldn’t believe how natural that felt—kissing one, and then kissing the other. But it did. So natural it scared me a little.
He tilted his head to catch my lips, craning his neck a little to accommodate for my height. We found our rhythm quickly, and I enjoyed the feel of his curly strands between my fingers.
As expected, the intensity matched what I felt with both Kai and Paulo, making me want to get as close to Rayen as humanly possible. I ran one hand down his bicep, feeling the raised outlines of his tattoos against my fingertips.
