His sexy eyes hold mine. “Just this really hot chick who I can’t wait to bone tonight.”
I snort as I sip coffee. “Bone?” I mouth with a raised brow. “Really? Did you just say bone?”
He nods with a devious smile.
“Well, your high school boning is going to have to wait. I’m working in emergency tonight, remember?” Hospital policy states that all interns do a minimum amount of hours working in emergency. It helps us get experience and helps the hospital with staffing. I’ve been rostered on tonight.
He frowns and then rolls his eyes. “Uch, that’s right.” He sips his coffee. “Boning before breakfast it is.”
I smile broadly and his face mirrors mine. “You really are intent on keeping that romance score of three, aren’t you?” I reply.
He chuckles cheekily. “You wouldn’t like me if I was normal.”
My eyes drop to his sexy mouth as his tongue darts out to lick his bottom lip.
“Probably not,” I whisper. “It’s the naughty in you that I love the most.” My eyes hold his.
“Ashley Tucker, my all night fucker,” he breathes.
I glance around at the tables around us. “Behave yourself, Dr. Stanton. I’ve got a reputation to uphold.”
His eyes hold mine and he raises a brow. “So have I.”
I put my hand on his thigh under the table. “Listen, Dr. Love: You keep dreaming how you’re going to serve me my breakfast boning, and I’m going to go back to work. See you about three in the morning.”
I get up and push my chair back.
“Drive home carefully, Bloss.”
I smile and bend to his ear with my hand on his shoulder. “I love you.”
He smiles and puts his hand over mine. “What’s not to love?”
I shake my head and he laughs out loud—that carefree beautiful laugh that permeates through my bones. “Goodbye, Cameron.” I shake my head and go back to work.
It’s four in the morning when I pull into his driveway.
The gates are immediately opened on my arrival. I know that security have been waiting for me to get home. I lock up my car and put my fingerprint into the front door scanner. It unlocks and opens. Whoever would have thought I would one day stay in a house where a key isn’t required?
The kitchen light is on, and I walk in and throw my handbag down.
A note is sitting on the counter.
Your dinner is in the fridge, hottie.
I smile and walk into the laundry, take off my scrubs, and put them straight into the washing machine.
We both do this. It’s a habit. As soon as we get home from hospital, our scrubs get washed immediately before the germs can spread throughout the house or anywhere near Owen. After ER shifts, especially. I head back to the kitchen in my robe, put the TV on, and open the fridge. Chicken satay stir fry. Yum. I smile. Cameron’s a much better cook than I am. I heat up my dinner and flick through Facebook while I eat in silence to some early morning crap television. I need this half an hour wind down time after being so busy for so long. I’m still buzzing.
Eventually, I head up to our room and find my prince sleeping soundly on his side. I walk over and gently kiss his cheek as I watch him.
His dark hair is splayed across the pillow and his chest rises and falls as he breathes. His big lips are semi parted, and his black, thick eyelashes flutter as he sleeps.
Just looking at him brings a smile to my face. His cheekiness and naughty boy personality is the light of mine and Owen’s life. I run my hand through his hair as I watch him, and after a much needed hot shower, I climb into bed behind him and snuggle against his back.
“Hey, Bloss,” he whispers sleepily as he pulls my arm around him.
I kiss his back. “Hi, babe,” I murmur as I rub my cheek on his skin. No place is more home to me than he is.
“You okay?” he murmurs softly with his eyes still closed.
“Yeah.” I kiss his back again. “It was an easy shift tonight.”
He worries about me working in emergency. On his first few shifts someone seemed to die every time and it traumatised him for life, I think.
I’m just falling asleep when the pitter patter of tiny feet walk into the room, around to Cameron’s side of the bed.
