and watch you start some bullshit war with the people who have wronged you, but not now. There’s too much going on.”
“I agree,” King says from across the room. “Save the war for after we figure out who the fuck blew up the staircase at the ball. We can’t afford to get distracted by this bullshit when your life is at risk. Sara is nothing but a thorn in your side. She’s not important.”
I roll my eyes and drop my phone back to the armrest of the couch. “If you assholes had spared me a second to even reply to Ember’s text, you would already know that I had absolutely no intention of going to war with her in the first place.”
Ember’s face scrunches in confusion. “Huh?”
I shake my head. “I don’t have time for that shit, not with all the schoolwork I need to catch up on and my bitch of a mother still on the loose. Besides, Sara is probably pacing her bedroom right now, terrified and fretting about what I might do to her and that fear is going to continue until the very last day of school. Every time I look her way, she’s going to wonder if that’s when I’m going to strike, and that’s more than enough to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”
Ember gives me a blank stare. “You are … fuck. I don’t even know what you are, but something isn’t right inside your head.”
I smile wide. “Why, thank you,” I tell her, more than in love with her dazzling compliment.
Ember rolls her eyes as Carver just shakes his head, not even a little bit surprised by our bullshit. He grabs the packet of chips back, and as his hand digs into the packet, his gaze drops to the thick ledger.
The guys have all but studied every page of this ledger over the past few weeks, familiarizing themselves with every victim who was stolen from their families. I don’t doubt that Dynasty is going to rescue them, it’s more a question of how we’re going to make it happen and when. But we will find a way. I won’t give up on them. It’s too important.
Cruz barges his way into the room and all eyes fall to him as he storms right up to the coffee table, and with a pissed-off grunt, slams a roll of toilet paper down right in the center, nearly knocking over the glass of ice water that Grayson keeps refilling for me. “We need to talk,” Cruz spits, glaring around the room and meeting each of our stares with a horrifically lethal one of his own, and making Ember squirm in her seat. “Who the fuck thought that it was alright to buy the cheap two-ply? My finger just went straight through it and I fingered my own fucking asshole.”
Loud, heaving laughs pull from both Ember and me as the boys just stare at Cruz, equally as horrified as he is. They’re probably imagining just how awful that would really be, but I guess now he knows what it’s like. “How far did you puncture that thing?” I ask, tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks as my abdomen starts to ache. “Did you just pierce the surface or get right through to the ring of fire?”
Cruz just stares at me as my white, fluffy ball of death comes bounding into the living room and jumps up on the couch between me and Carver. I scoop up Lady Dante while keeping my questioning stare on Cruz until he lets out a heavy sigh and drops onto the single couch opposite me. “I think I just lost my virginity,” he mutters. “I feel violated.”
Ember grins and I glance over at her just in time to watch her amused gaze meet Cruz’s. She winks and her grin only triples in size. “It felt good, right?”
Cruz just leans forward and drops his head into his hands. “Too soon. Way too fucking soon.”
King lets out a low breath while eyeing the offending toilet paper innocently sitting on the coffee table in the center of the room. “It’s alright, man,” he says in a supportive, but hesitant tone as he slowly nods his head. “We’ve all been there.”
Cruz glances up to meet King’s stare, and as they look at each other for a long moment, their mutual misery creates a strong, unbreakable bond between them, tethering them together as violated ass-brothers for all eternity.
