Destroy For Her - R.B. Hilliard Page 0,69

to the table. “Where were we?”

“Two for Ax and one for Ink,” Arson said.

“That’s three for Ax, assuming he’s voting for himself,” Sledge corrected.

“Anyone else want on the ballot?” Steele asked. When no one else came forward, he pushed for a vote. “Chopper?”

“Sorry Ax, but I’m going with Ink,” Chopper replied.

Steele called Arson’s name.

Arson responded, “I’m cool with either one.”

Ax held his breath and waited for Steele to intervene.

“Pick, brother,” Steele ordered.

“Okay, fine, I pick Ax.”

This made it four to two—Steele didn’t even have to cast a vote because Ax was already the winner.

“The votes have been cast. Ax Easton is Steele Raiders new VP,” Steele announced. Cheers rang around the room.

Ax had done it.

_______________

Thanksgiving morning, Sage was awakened by a kiss. Her eyes slowly opened, her mouth splitting into a smile when she saw the man of her dreams hovering over her.

“Good morning,” she murmured sleepily.

“Morning,” he said while gently kissing her neck. His lips trailed to her collarbone where he planted another kiss, then to her shoulder, and onto her arm, and finally ending at her hand—where he slid something onto her finger.

Her breath caught in her throat as she lifted her hand and stared at the most beautiful diamond ring she’d ever seen.

“Marry me.”

Leave it to Alex to pose it as an order and not a question. “It’s gorgeous,” she cooed.

“Is that an answer?”

She gave him a saucy smile. “Was there a question?”

He laughed. “No.”

“In that case, the answer is yes.”

He tackled her to the bed and kissed her silly.

They were starting to get hot and heavy when the bedroom door flew open, and Petal swooped in. “Happy Thanksgiving!”

Alex lifted up, and Sage quickly straightened her nightie.

He patted the bed. “Come here, baby girl. I have something to tell you.”

Sage’s heart did a little dance in her chest. Petal was going to be so excited.

When Petal was settled between them, Alex said, “I asked your mom to marry me this morning, and she said yes. This means that I’ll be your stepdad.” He scrunched his nose. “Stepdad isn’t good enough for me. I want to be your real dad, so if it’s okay with you and your mom, I would like to adopt you.”

Petal’s eyes lit up. “Really? Like I would have your last name and everything?”

Alex gave her daughter a heart-stopping smile. “And everything.”

Sage let out a sob. This was really happening. She was getting everything she’d ever wanted.

Petal glanced at Sage and rolled her eyes. “She does this a lot,” she informed Alex, and Sage couldn’t help but laugh.

_______________

Later that afternoon, as they gathered with his brothers and their families at The Cave for Thanksgiving, Ax couldn’t help but feel grateful. Not only was Sage finally his, but he was going to adopt Petal and they were going to be a family. A real family. He was starting a new chapter in his life. He gazed around the room at the smiling faces. They all were. Steele and LuLu were starting a family—same for Buck and Reyn. Sledge and Aimee were taking another chance, and Arson had his weird thing with Meg. They’d lost people along the way but also gained some.

“Toast!” Taz called out. It was tradition for the president to make a Thanksgiving toast.

Steele stood. “This year, I’m going to let my VP give the toast.” He sat down, and the room exploded into cheers.

Ax pushed to his feet. Smiling, he gazed around the room at his friends—his family. “A wise man once said that life isn’t what you can do for yourself but what you can do for each other. We’re not just a club, we’re a family. Separate, we are good, but together, we are great. Here’s to many more years of greatness. Happy Thanksgiving.”

The room exploded into one, very loud, “Happy Thanksgiving!”
