Dart and Dash - Mary Smith Page 0,42
want to be part of this, then be serious.” Dart put his hand over his mouth, Dash busted into laughter, and Garnet’s eyes went wide.
“Part of what?” I looked between the three of them, feeling like I was missing a punchline of a joke. “Dart?”
“You opened your mouth, you need to go ahead and finish it,” Dash told him as Dart ignored me.
“Shit,” Dash mumbled. “This isn’t how I planned it.”
“What the hell is going on?” I tossed my menu down and crossed my arms. These three had been planning something, and I didn’t like being left out of the loop.
“Daisy, calm down.” Dart reached for my hand, giving it a soft squeeze.
The waitress walked up to our table and asked if we were ready to order.
“No,” I shouted. “Go away,” I commanded.
“Daisy,” Dart’s voice was a mixture of shock and chastisement, but the waitress complied and scurried away.
“Man, I’m glad I’m here for this,” Dash chuckled, and Garnet laughed too.
I gasped as the first thought entered my head. “You’re breaking up with me.” I couldn’t believe it. He’d brought them along to humiliate me. I never thought Dart would do this to me. Our love was special, or so I thought. I guess I was wrong.
“Daisy,” Dart rubbed his temples.
“I can’t believe you. After almost four years together, and everything we planned for our future, this is how you repay me? Now, you’re throwing it all away. Have you been stringing me along all this time?” I humph, pouted, and slouched down in my seat. “Who is she Dart? How long have you been cheating on me?” I knew that had to be the reason; it had to be some slut. “You’re no better than Dash.”
“Why do I always get pulled into these conversations?” Dash whined to Garnet, making her laugh harder.
“Daisy, when do I have time to cheat on you? If I’m not in class, at football practice, or doing homework, I’m with you.”
“Whatever,” I stuck my nose in the air, trying to not show my tears.
“Daisy,” by Dart’s tone, I knew he’d had enough. Well, so had I, and I was about to get up and leave. “I’m not breaking with you.” He slammed a small black, velvet box on the table. “I’m asking you to marry me.”
“See, the anger in his face reminds me that he has a dark side. He almost looks like me.” Dash continued with his commentary, and Garnet snorted.
“What?” I sat up, slowly looking at the box and ignoring Dash. “You…what?” I still don’t think I understood what was going on. I touched the soft velvet of the box.
“I’m asking you, will you marry me?” Dart removed the tiny box from my fingers and opened it. I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands.
My first thought was, what kind of dress what I going to wear? Maybe a ball gown? Then I looked away from the ring, and into Dart’s soft blue eyes. At that point, I didn’t care if I wore a paper sack; I wanted to be with Dart and only him for the rest of my life.
“Yes,” the tears fell before I even knew I was crying. “Yes, Dart, I’ll marry you.” I cupped his face, and pulled him to me, kissing his beautiful mouth.
“You know we’re still here right?” Dash’s question tried to break our kiss, but I couldn’t stop. Instead, I flipped my middle finger at him. “Well, at least I know she can multi-task,” he smarted off.
Dart gave me a few feathery kisses before pulling back. He reached for the ring, and put it on my finger. It’s sparkle was almost hypnotizing. I couldn’t take my eyes away from it; I wanted to stare at it forever.
“Wow, Dart, it’s beautiful. I can’t believe what a great job you did picking it out.”
“Well, I didn’t really pick it out.”
“Huh?” I finally looked away from the ring.
“Garnet went with Dash and me, and she was the one that picked it out.”
I whipped my head over to my younger sister, who was giving me a tiny smile. “I guess, I should thank you then.”
She shrugged, but I could see a hint of appreciation, and happiness in her expression.
“Can we order now? I’m hungry.” Dash belted out.
We all settled back down and enjoyed an amazing lunch together. We laughed, joked, and it was the first time that I felt like we were a true family. I could see us in the future doing the same thing with our children running
