Dance Around - Susi Hawke Page 0,40

knowing where in the world to find them. And yet someone did. And no, it wasn't anyone on any of their office staffs. Another safeguard is each council member only knows how to contact two others. Which means anyone working for them wouldn't be privy to the information either."

Nash whistled softly. "Are we talking about a coup d'état?"

Morty took a deep breath as he nodded. "Yeah, I think we could be. Sir Alfred wants to hire you to find out who's behind it and nip it in the bud. What do you say? Are you in?"

Nash and I shared a long look, then nodded. When you understood how another person thought, speech wasn’t necessary. I stood and reached for Dan's hand. "You know what, Morty? We will take it under consideration and get back to you on Monday. Today is for family. I'll give you a call when I'm back in the office, so have some numbers ready for me. If we take this gig, it's gonna be pricey because of the obvious risk factor. Now if you'll excuse me, I owe my man a dance. You know the way out, right?"

Within minutes, all of Dan's brothers had joined us on the dance floor along with their mates. I looped my hands around Dan’s neck while he wrapped his arms around my waist. As we swayed side to side in a classic slow dance, I looked around at the different Moreno couples.

Clay and Nick were mixing salsa flare into the practically indecent dance they had going on. Gibby looked mortified and more than a little turned on because Darius was twerking against his crotch. Dear and Nate were doing a classic waltz, while Nash and Isaac laughed and goofed around with one old school dance move after another. It was like they were competing to see who could do it worse as they morphed from the robot to the funky chicken to the twist to… oh hell. I lost track, and it didn't matter. The point was they were having fun, and watching them made me happy.

As for me and Dan, I was good with slow dancing. Now that we had finally stopped trying to dance around each other and had finally accepted each other as true mates, anything we did on the dance floor was enough for me. Knowing we were doing it together and always would be was more important than the steps themselves.

Dan must have been reading my mind because he smiled at his brothers before bending to kiss me. "It feels good to know my family is settled and complete now. I'm so glad we worked our shit out. If I didn’t have you in my arms, watching my brothers and their mates would be killing me right now. More babies might come along at some point and probably will, but at least my generation is happily settled with true mates. We have years before we have to worry about the kids finding their own happiness."

Tightening my arms, I pulled him closer for another kiss before sharing my own thoughts on the matter. "I say the kids can worry about their futures themselves. You and I will simply take life from now on like we are on the dance floor—one step at a time and in each other's arms."

"I like the way you think, Blondie. I knew I loved you for a reason. Aside from you being awesome and not hard on the eyes, you really do get the best ideas."

Taking in a deep breath—and a deep whiff of his fabulous scent—I smiled back at him. "I do, don't I? It's a good thing I love you too because you get to hear all my ideas. For example, I'm having one at this very moment."

"Oh yeah? And what might be on your mind?"

Rubbing my full body against his, I flashed him a wink. "Let's start with a kiss while we dance a little more. After, I was thinking you could carry me off to our private quarters, and we can do a little dancing of the naked variety."

"Like I said, I like the way you think, Blondie. Now hush up and kiss me. Not too long ago, someone told me talking was overrated, and I think I'm inclined to agree."

Naturally, I had to obey him. What can I say? My mate was sexy when he got bossy on me. If only I'd figured as much out years ago. It was okay. Making up for lost time would be a lot of fun. I'd make sure of it.

The Reluctant Alpha

West Coast Wolves, book 1

“As much as I felt bad for this Elisha person—goddess, my heart was breaking for the young man and all he'd been through—I was also angry. I'd left that pack in my rearview ten years ago for a good reason.”

Matthias Longclaw is happy living his life on the back of his beloved Harley with his five best friends and brothers-in-arms at his side. The West Coast Wolves are a rare pack of alphas, made up of unwanted orphans and second-born sons. The packs they were born to may not have wanted them, but they’ve built a solid family of their own. They help where they can, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return, just helping to build a world they want to live in.

Then Matt gets a call from an old childhood buddy. He’s being called back—begged to return—to reclaim his birthright and save a life in the process. The problem is… to do it, he will have to take a mate. And if he refuses? The omega will die.

Torn between his duty to help others and his resentment of his old pack, Matt never expects for Elisha Whitepaw to tilt his world and change everything. Can Matt and Elisha rebuild a broken pack while tending to a new love and a growing family while dealing with outside threats from neighboring packs?

They’re wolves. Strong, proud, and willing to do what it takes when their community needs them… whatever it takes.

This is the first in a new series about finding joy in a hard world, building family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty fun that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it.

About the Author

Thank you for reading this book. Every story I write has a piece of my heart attached. Here’s a little bit about me… I’m a happily married mom of one snarky teenage boy and three grown “kids of my heart.” As a reader and big romance fan myself, I love sharing the stories of the different people who live in my imagination. My stories are filled with humor, a few tears, and the underlying message to never give up hope, even in the darkest of times, because life can change on a dime when you least expect it. This theme comes from a lifetime of lessons learned on my own hard journey through the pains of poverty, the loss of more loved ones than I’d care to count, and the struggles of living through chronic illnesses. Life can be hard, but it can also be good! Through it all, I’ve found that love, laughter, and family can make all the difference, and that’s what I try to bring to every tale I tell.
