But since that was what everyone was calling them, I wasn’t going to buck the trend.
“That’s no fun.” Rowan sighed, draping himself dramatically across the couch. “I was hoping for a good night out that would let me live vicariously.”
“Sorry to burst your bubble.” Then I grinned. “But if it helps, we’re meeting a few guys who sound like they might be Daddies.”
“Really?” He popped up, all wide eyes and innocent excitement. “From the party?”
I shook my head. “Most are people that couldn’t make it to the party. That’s why they’re doing this get-together. They want to see how everyone interacts.”
Which was probably a good thing.
Several were familiar to Silas and Simon, but there were a few they hadn’t met and I wasn’t keen on having just anyone in a position of authority. Thankfully, the rest of the guys agreed.
It helped that the construction crew knew so many people in the lifestyle in the area, but just because they’d dated someone a few times and they hadn’t seemed insane didn’t automatically make them a good candidate for that much control.
I might have been a bit pessimistic, but there was no way the guys could be there constantly and they were going to need a good crew to help them run it. However, since they were all strong control freaks outside of actually subbing, I wasn’t sure how that was going to go.
“That’s going to be so much fun.” He leaned forward so much he almost fell off the couch. “You have to tell me if there’s anyone I should get to know.”
Chuckling, I nodded. “Deal.”
Looking down at my phone, I straightened and picked it up off the coffee table. “Okay, I have to go.”
He sighed, giving me a pitiful expression. “Fine. Leave me to wonder what exciting things you’re doing.”
“I’m just going to be watching them talk. I have no plans on interfering.” That had Rowan laughing.
“You’re incapable of not interfering.”
“That’s ridiculous.” Giving him a snarky look, I shook my head. “I don’t butt in with his work.”
Rowan shrugged. “But you’re not going to see this as work. You’re going to look at them as other Doms and subs and you’ll want to know who’s going to be around your sub.”
Standing, I was trying not to smile. “No, I’m just going for moral support like the rest of the Doms.”
“What? A guy isn’t allowed to bring a buddy a present sometimes?” Okay, maybe the animal set was too much, but Rowan had a thing for animals and it’d been cute.
He laughed. “And a new coloring book and you even filled up my cup when you thought I needed juice.”
“Is it a crime if I pay attention to people?” I huffed, playing offended.
His grin never faltered. “No, but the chances of you sitting back quietly are slim to none.”
He knew me too well.
“I’m going to do my best. This is Dakota’s project and I’m just there for moral support and to show him that I fit in with the rest of the Doms.” I had a feeling that was what my invitation had really been about.
When the idea for the get-together had first been tossed around, it was supposed to have just been the guys. But over the past few weeks things had changed and the alphas somehow became invited too.
Part of their logic had been that they wanted to see how the prospective employees related to omegas in charge. I couldn’t fault that because it was entirely possible one of the Doms might have an issue with it or even one of the subs who might have been picturing more Doms in control of the club.
But from a few hints that Jonah had dropped lately, I’d gotten the idea that this was about getting to know me more since we hadn’t found many opportunities to talk yet. Dakota was such a natural homebody that if he didn’t get dragged out once in a while he’d never leave the house.
The only exception to that was Wade.
Dakota had been attempting to drag Wade out with us occasionally, and when we didn’t go anywhere, Wade would hang out with us at Dakota’s place. He was still worried that he was intruding, but we were slowly making sure he understood that it was a ridiculous idea.
Once I actually left, the drive from Rowan’s to the club wasn’t bad, but getting out took some time because there was
