A Crown Of Smoke And Ash - Sloane Murphy Page 0,4

for the bathroom. I push the door open, then switch on the lights and stop in my tracks.

Holy crap.

This isn't a bathroom. I almost have no words. White marble glittered with gold and black covers the floor, sparkling beneath the spotlights. The counter is covered in the same white, a huge mirror atop it, lined with further bulbs. I flip the switch beside it and they flicker on, casting a warm glow around the room.

Behind me I see the huge white tub, the steps that lead up to the ledge with candles placed around the bath, and my heart flutters. That tub was made for a person who loves a bath. The shower in the far corner reminds me of the one in Kain's hotel room. My face heats at the memory and I smile. I turn on the shower and strip out of my dirty clothes quickly, dropping them in the hamper tucked under the counter. I grab two white fluffy towels from the cupboard in the far corner and hang them on the heated towel rail. Heaven.

I wait for it to heat, and then step beneath the hot water. I can't stop the groan that passes my lips as the heat washes over me, cleaning the layers of dirt and grime on my skin. I grab the loofah on the ledge and squeeze some of the body wash onto it, sighing at the lavender and lily scent it carries. The same as the one I have at home. I take my time, scrubbing and cleaning up, lathering my long, knotted hair before conditioning it, and then just standing under the water.

Feeling stronger and more relaxed than I have in what seems like forever, I turn off the water, and climb out. I wrap the towels around myself and pad back towards my room. I eye up the bed, but I just know if I sit on it, I'll lie down. And if I lie down, I won't get back up. Instead, I sit on the sofa, and just relax while I dry off. I close my eyes and try not to think back over the last two weeks, and wonder what happened outside of that cell.

My stomach grumbles and I give in. I towel dry my hair best as I can, and head into the closet. I never said I wasn't nosey. I open the doors and find a room at least half the size of the bedroom. Rails with an array of clothing line the side walls, with cupboards and drawers, breaking up the space. The back wall holds squares, some with different shoes, others with belts and other accessories. I smile, a woman who loves shopping filled this place.

I grab a black hooded long sleeve top and a pair of dark blue jeans. I open the drawers and find all sorts of goodies. I grab some underwear from one, a hairdryer from another, and head back into the room. I could just wear what I brought with me, but this stuff is nice, soft, and well… it seems rude not to considering it was bought for me.

I take the time to dry my hair, its length now past my waist sits in waves. I dress quickly as my stomach rumbles again, and head back to the sitting room. I hear hushed voices as I approach, quieting as I get closer. I reach the room and find Leviathan sitting on the sofa with a woman I don't recognize. I hide my shock at his wings being gone again, and step into the room.

"Hi." I wave at them awkwardly, and cringe internally at his eye roll.

"Remy, this is Serafina. Serafina, Remy." I wave at the beauty sitting beside him, as she eyes me with cool disdain. "Everly is finishing up in the kitchen."

"Awesome, if you point me in the right direction, I'll go find her," I say, wanting to escape this space. What felt warm and inviting earlier couldn't feel less welcoming right now. He points to the far right of the space and I practically run from the room. I'm not usually one to run from confrontation, but I'm not really feeling myself right now either. I walk, following my nose and the delicious aroma, and find the kitchen, where Everly is plating up pastries that smell like heaven.

"Oh, there you are sweetheart. I was about to come and find you." She smiles as she finishes plating up the food, and whirring around the kitchen, stirring sauces
