A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy
Chapter One
Levi
I’m going to fucking kill him.
It takes less than a split second for a riot to start behind me, just another reason I’m going to fucking kill him.
“What the actual fuck just happened?” Colt yells taking a step towards me as I turn to face them all. I level him with a look and Caleb places a hand on his shoulder, holding him in place. I’m sure it’s more for Colt’s safety than my own. As good of a Hunter as Colt is, he’s not fought an angel before. Even if I held back for Remy’s sake, he could end up like his brother, and that isn’t something I want to do.
“Why the hell did you let him take her?” Creek grinds out, his eyes are black and his fists clenched as he keeps a tight leash on the demon inside of him. I take a deep breath, because they are going to like this about as much as I do. Fuck, I really am going to kill him.
“First of all, I didn’t let him do a damn thing. Stopping Michael is about as simple and easy as stopping a goddamn hurricane.” I massage my temples, closing my eyes for a brief reprieve before looking back at everyone. I’m not sure exactly who the biggest threat is here right now, but Morgan looks like she wants my head. Between her and her Horsemen, I’m pretty sure they could probably take it too. “But, much as I hate to admit it, she is safe with him. Probably safer than she is here right now.”
Shouts start up all over again, and it takes every ounce of willpower not to lose my shit at them. I’m not exactly spitting fucking rainbows about Remy being taken from us once more either, but are they forgetting that she very nearly just fucking died on us? Again.
“Why, pray tell, is she safe with him?” Kain asks, his sarcasm overriding his anger, but it’s still there, flashing in his eyes and in his descended fangs.
“Because he’s in love with her.” The words leave my mouth and silence descends across them all. It’s as if time pauses momentarily as they take it in.
“Of course he fucking is,” Caleb mutters. I barely get chance to open my mouth when pain rips through me and I’m flying backwards through the air. The sound of tree trunks snapping as I fly backwards is all I can hear as I crash through the tree line on the edge of the field, leaving destruction in my wake. I groan as I finally hit the ground. I lift my head, trying not to let my anger overrule the logic of the fact that they deserve to be angry, because they don’t know the whole story yet, but I’ll be fucked if I’m just going to stand here and take it. It’s not like I fucking asked Bauer to try and kill her right in front of us, or invited Michael down here to take her away from us.
I climb to my feet, take a deep breath, and brace myself as I spot the three of them barreling towards me. Roman reaches me first and tackles me, his shoulder to my gut taking me down before his fists start flying, first at my ribs, then my face. I keep my arms up as much as I can to protect myself from the angry Lycan. There’s only so much of this I’m going to allow before I start fighting back, regardless of what Remy would think. Everything I do, I do for her. Case in point, the beat down I’m currently being handed without fighting back.
I keep blocking as many fists as I can before throwing Roman off of me, and I get to my feet. I groan as the pain in my ribs hits me when I’m on my feet, then Creek and Kain attack me at once. Becoming a demon certainly seems to suit Creek, but fuck I wish he hadn’t been such a good student with learning his powers. Every punch of his is like ten with the weight of his power behind it. He isn’t enough to hurt me properly alone, but the three of them, with their anger, who fucking knows.
A whistle pierces the air followed by a loud bang, startling us all. “As much fun as this is boys,” Morgan drawls. “This isn’t going to bring her back, and I’m pretty sure she’ll be pissed as fuck if you break
