honestly through the genes.

“Won’t let Fork ride to his job alone. Two prospects follow him. Stubborn fucker won’t quit that job, either, even though I gave him several options. We are ridin’ in groups right now. You make sure you do nothin’ alone. Your Harley is parked for the foreseeable. You hear? Rather you not drive your purple people eater, either, since it stands out. Borrow my SUV if you need it.”

“Rider already told me,” I said. “Bick ran me over. He was stationed at the salon.”

Bick, the twenty something former Jackals prospect who’d been brought over was very verbal about being angry at the fact that he couldn’t have been there to help get those two off the top of the food chain, he said. He told me they weren’t good enough to be the worm food they’d become. I got the impression he absolutely hated them.

“Guess you’re not missing your old club?” I’d asked.

“Once you’re in, you don’t get out unless you’re carried out in a body bag. Thought I was stuck in that fuckin’ nightmare. Joinin’ that club was the biggest mistake of my life. Fork saved my ass. Owe that guy my life.”

I knew the feeling.

“Woulda had my patch instead of startin’ over as a prospect but this club? Feel the difference immediately. Happy to start over to be part of your family, Jojo,” Bick had said.

“Well, I’m tellin’ ya, too,” Dad said. “Extra careful.”

“Roger dodger, codger.”

Dad grinned and pulled me in for a hug.

“Jojolicious!” That was Uncle George. He came directly to me and took me from Dad so he could squish me in a bear hug that knocked the wind out of me.

Uncle George was a good friend of Dad’s. He and Dad went back to the very beginning of joining the club together, though they were now in different chapters.

“Uncle Georgie Porgie!”

He tickled me and magically pulled a quarter out from behind my ear and put it in my hand.

“Fuckin’ good to see you, babykins.”

“You, too,” I said.

He looked straight into my eyes. “You keep those gorgeous eyes wide open, you hear me? Be careful. Annie got yer gun?”

“It’s in storage, but---”

Uncle George had given me a purple handgun at my sweet sixteen birthday party. Most of the brothers got a laugh out of it. My father and my brothers didn’t.

“Carry it. Deke, she needs to carry it.”

Dad lifted his hand. “She doesn’t. We’re watchin’.”

George growled at my father and waved at Coco for a drink.

“The girls are here. Later, Uncle Georgie.”

I kissed his fuzzy cheek and grabbed my fuzzy navel drink while sticking the quarter in my pocket, then headed toward the booths where I saw Jenna, Pippa, and Ella grabbing seats.

“Thanks for the drink, Justice,” I said as I passed him and Christian. Justice eyed me lazily again and I saw Christian shoot him a look that made my belly dip.

Now that I’ve got my eyes set on someone, someone else shows an interest? Figures. I guess that’s how it goes. Then again, Justice was new and didn’t likely know about the buzzard meat warning.

I smiled wide at Justice, earning me a wink from him. I shot Christian a snotty look before I finished making my way toward the girls.

“Hey,” I greeted, sitting down with them.

I heard the band launch into Red Red Wine. Oh! AbstractED. I’d forgotten they’d be here again tonight.

The girls were all cheers’ing when I sat down. They got served fast. I snuck my drink in there and got greetings as I did.

As my mouth was moving away from my glass, I spotted Jesse coming in with Gianna.

He was dressed in his leather cut, a black dress shirt, and black jeans with his motorcycle boots. She was dressed in head-to-toe black leather. A leather vest with glittery stitching, black leather pants, and high-heeled black peekaboo toe booties with black tipped French pedicure. Against her plum hair, all the leather looked stunning. She looked beautiful but she also looked a bit spooked. Jesse’s eyes met mine as he took her to the bar.

Saturday nights most biker bunnies stayed in the background if they even came at all. Lots of old ladies here tonight and often on Saturdays. Unfortunately, Gianna was dressed way more like a biker bunny, or if I was honest an adult entertainer, and though she looked gorgeous and I was of the mind that people should express themselves in whatever way they felt most comfortable, I knew that Gianna’s fashion style would do her no
