Crossroads (Beautiful Biker MC Romance Series) - DD Prince Page 0,133

arms went around her finally.

Jonathan sniffed and stared at the ceiling.

I made a choking sound despite my efforts and that got me a hug from Jonathan. I patted his back.

“And you’re so strong you turned out good,” Jolene said. “I can see that you overcame. You were so angry, I just… I really worried. I’m so glad you’re happy and away from that lifestyle.”

“It’s been a long road, Ma, but when I saw Ella with one of the brothers in the Dominion Brotherhood, first I was pissed she was with a biker. But then I saw a fork in the road ahead of me.”

I pulled my lips tight.

“Looks like you took a good path,” she said, her eyes bright with happy tears.

“Coupla times in my life I saw crossroads ahead and knew sometimes I was picking a harder road, but I did what I felt I had to do. The brothers are just what I need in my life. Make a good living, got my dream girl, and if I have my way, he won’t be able to terrorize anyone I love again.”

My hands trembled. So did my knees. My legs were visibly shaking. His eyes darted to me and they were still filled with the determination I saw in them when he said those things a moment ago, but now they filled with concern, too.

I squeezed Christian’s hand and looked directly into his eyes. He swallowed and emptied his lungs with a long breath.

“It’s so good to see you, Chris; to meet you, Jojo. I’m so happy for you both. God, you two are gonna have some gorgeous babies. Her eyes and your eyes? Wow.” She smiled big. “We’ll look forward to Saturday. Safe travels.”

“My brother, marrying the calendar girl. Fantastic. See you in Vegas, new sister.” Jonathan hugged me. “If I didn’t have a great fiancée, I’d ask you to set me up with a biker babe model.”

I giggled. “Yay. New brother. And I haven’t actually met any of them.”

“Damn,” Jonathan snapped his fingers in disappointment.

I reached for Jolene. “New mom! I don’t really have one, mine is in a similar category to Christian and Jonathan’s dad, so this is very cool.”

She looked concerned.

This woman wasn’t broken. Not at all. Her expression was as if she was ready to take me under her wing right here.

“A story for another day.” I flicked my wrist. “A girls’ day. I’ll bring the donuts next time and tell you all about it.”

“I look forward to that. I mean, I’m sorry about your relationship with your mother, but… Jonathan’s fiancée Katie is great, and it’ll be just wonderful to have two daughters-in-law. You’ll like Katie a lot. She’s gonna love you; I can already tell.”

“Ooh. I get another sister-in-law, too. That’s great. Will she come Saturday, too?”

“She’ll definitely come,” Jonathan said with a smile. “How the hell you get away with calling him Christian, by the way? His full name has been a fightin’ word since he could form a fist.”

I looked in surprise at Christian.

He said nothing but his eyes were on me.

“He doesn’t seem to mind it from my lips.” I shrugged.

My man rolled his eyes. “We gotta go.”

Jonathan grabbed Christian’s hand and shook it. Christian pulled him into a hug and slapped his back. “Asked Jojo’s brother to be my best man. Woulda---”

“It’s cool. I’m just glad I’ll get to be there. But Chris… will you be mine? Gettin’ married next year.”

“I’d be honored, Jonny. You get your girl a ring yet?”

“Saving my nickels and dimes, man.”

I smiled. I had no idea how long it’d been since they’d seen one another, but I thought it was awesome that he didn’t try to give his girl his grandmother’s rings since they’d already been promised to Christian.

I gave them one more hug each and then we headed out so Jolene could get some rest and so that we could make our way with the twelve-hour drive ahead of us. She was visibly crying now, looking absolutely relieved, like she’d gotten her long-lost boy back. I was so happy for her.

Back in the truck, he stuck the key in the ignition, but then he put his forehead to the steering wheel.

I rubbed his back with my hand, my chin still all trembly.

He said nothing for a long time. I didn’t either. I just rubbed his back.

I didn’t know what could’ve be done for the outcome to go a different way. I’d like to think I’d fight until my death to get my
