at that, and I saw something pass in front of her eyes.
“What is it?” I asked, and she shrugged.
“It’s just that no one has ever called me special before,” she said. “I know that’s dumb and childish, but…”
“What?” I asked in shock. “Never? Not your parents? Not your boyfriend?”
“No one,” she answered. “It’s fine; it doesn't matter. I’m used to just being...I don’t know. Normal. Average. Second best.”
“Well, you aren’t anything of those things here,” I assured her. “Here, you are special. One of a kind.”
Chapter Thirteen
Jenny
I wasn’t surprised that I had slept with Jacob. It wasn’t that I had a preference between the three of them, but I knew I was going to sleep with one of them eventually. It was beyond my control. They were all incredibly sexy, and they were all plaguing my dreams.
Sleeping with Jacob had opened my mind to a whole new realm of possibilities. I hadn't realized it was possible for sex to be that good. Whatever I had with Matthew was not sex. It was basically just lying there and him getting whatever he wanted. There were times, in the early days, when he did turn me on, but that quickly went away.
I didn’t know I could orgasm just by basically looking at a man, but I was starting to feel that way with Jacob. Hell, I was starting to feel that way with all of them.
There was another good thing that had come of all of this, and that was Anna. She was Nick’s wife, one of the other brothers, and she was the kindest, most patient woman I had ever met. When she came down to meet me on the first day and asked me if I needed anything, I nearly wept in her arms.
She didn’t say anything that made me uncomfortable, and she didn’t say anything that made me think I was going to be forced to sleep with them. However, when I acknowledged that at least my rescuers were fairly good looking, she chuckled.
I had a feeling that she knew it was going to happen eventually. She knew that I was going to tumble into bed with them. I just wondered if she knew which one I was going to tumble into bed with. Maybe she thought it was one of the other ones, rather than Jacob, who seemed very connected to the original family. Jacob had grown up with the others, and so he seemed focused and hardworking. It wasn’t that Johnathan and Frances didn’t work hard, but they certainly played a bit harder than him.
She had given me her number and told me to call her if I needed anything. Today, with my body aching wonderfully after the amazing session with Jacob, I felt like calling her was the right thing to do.
“Hello?” Anna asked when she picked up the phone. I could hear a child in the background and vaguely remembered that she had some children with Nick. I wasn’t exactly sure of their story, but I did know that the two of them were completely in love, and that was what mattered to me.
“Hi, it’s Jenny,” I said. “Do you have time to talk?”
“Absolutely,” she replied. I could hear clunking in the background, and it sounded like she was cooking something.
“Are you sure?” I asked. “Because if you’re busy…”
“No, no,” she said. “I’m so used to multitasking.”
I smiled.
“Yeah, I used to be good at that,” I said. “But I feel like the last couple of years...I can barely focus on one thing.”
“I mean, that’s fair,” she said. “You’ve been through a bunch of trauma. It’s not surprising to hear that your body just wants to take time out to chill and relax.”
“Right…” I said. “About that. My body and I...did not take the time to relax.”
“What are you saying?” she asked. “Did something happen?”
“Well...sort of,” I said and then mumbled something.
“Sorry, I can’t hear you,” she said.
I spoke up a little bit more. “I slept with Jacob.”
She chuckled.
“Well, my goodness,” she said. “I am proud of you.”
“Are you?” I asked. “Because I feel like I haven’t been here very long and then…”
“No, it’s fine,” she said. “Frankly, I am surprised it didn’t happen sooner.”
“Oh,” I said. “Why, is it well known that you just end up sleeping with any bear shifters that you come into contact with?”
“No,” she said. “But those three are attractive."
“Oh,” I said. “Yeah, I guess.”
“Look, don’t feel bad about it,” she said. “Right now, you are just learning a whole new
