Court of Midnight - Lucinda Dark Page 0,19

was the only thing that filled my ears. My body ached as I filled her over and over again, needing release.

Roan's hand slid down her stomach and dipped between us, and parted her folds so he could circle her clit. His mouth dropped from her neck to the nipple that was closest to him. The pink, rosy bud disappeared into his mouth as Sorrell mimicked his action on the other side.

Cress's brows drew together and I felt the inner walls of her body tightening around my cock as we all pushed her over the edge. She screamed and her body clenched around my own, triggering my orgasm, my seed spilling into her heated core.

Except it wasn't her core at all, it was just my hand. I felt a faint buzz of magic in my veins and knew that this would only be the beginning if we wanted to move the castle again. I'd give myself a brief respite before round two, knowing that I'd do whatever I had to for us to get Cress back safely.

Chapter Eight

Cress

My eyes cracked open, but for several long moments, all I saw was gray and blurs. My head felt like a weight had been pressing down on me for ages. My limbs felt the same. A groan bubbled up past my lips as I forced my body to the side, turning and leaning over the threadbare cot and dry heaving onto the ground. Nothing escaped my lips but spittle and gagging noises.

I closed my eyes and breathed through my nose, trying to repress the urge to heave again. There was nothing in my stomach. The only thing that came up was bile and I didn't feel like going through the burn of that. Keeping my eyes shut, I crawled off of the cot and pressed my cheek against the cool stone floor.

Sweat collected against my skin and dried there. I couldn’t say how long I remained like that. It could’ve been minutes or hours. The sound of keys jangling in the locks of my prison roused me some time later and I peeked my eyes open, sitting up and leaning my back against the cot as an unfamiliar soldier walked in carrying a tray.

I eyed it with trepidation. Were they really feeding a prisoner meant to die? Or were they trying to advance the process by poisoning me? My stomach rumbled with hunger nonetheless. I looked up to the guard. He was clad in leather armor and cautious as he moved towards me with the tray.

“Here." He tossed the tray to the ground in front of me and I winced when the edge smacked into my toes. The bowl that'd been sitting on the top of it, trembled and tipped over, whatever gruel that they'd slopped into it spilling out onto the ground. I didn't care. My eyes weren't on the bowl. They were on the hunk of bread to the side. It looked a little stale, but there were no mold spots.

The guard, however, didn't turn around and walk out like I expected him to. I lifted my eyes back to his and only then did he speak. "You should be grateful," he spat at me. "His Majesty shouldn't even be feeding a vile creature such as you."

"Vile creature?" I repeated the words, confused, before I realized he meant a Fae. "I'm not a vile creature," I snapped. "I'm a person and I have a name. It's Cress."

He scoffed, his head rearing back, but his eyes stayed on me. It took a second for me to put together why he was still in the room. Despite his harsh words, he was curious. Growing up in the convent, I'd always been told similar things about Fae—that they were faithless, disloyal, and dangerous. I'd never really paid attention, but that was mostly because I'd seen, firsthand, how some of the nuns had gone against their very own teachings to display the same accusations they hurled at others.

"What makes me so bad?" I asked the man, reaching for the tipped bowl on the tray and setting it upright.

"You're Fae," he replied.

I waited a beat and when he didn't say anything more, I tipped my head at him. "And that makes me intrinsically bad?" I asked.

His eyes flashed with anger. "I know how the Faekind are," he gritted out, hanging over me with a malevolent appearance.

"Oh? If you're so knowledgeable about them," I snapped back, "then tell me what you know. What kind of Fae am I?
