Come Hot (Club Silken #2) - Jerrie Alexander Page 0,8

now before anyone gets inside. “Kayla, why don’t you and Chels let me drive you home? Let the lovebirds go it alone.”

“Works for me.” Chels takes two steps in my direction and Kayla follows. I walk around to the passenger side of my BMW, open both doors, and let them decide who sits where. Chels slides into the back, leaving Kayla up front with me. I move around to my side, remove my suit coat, and place in next to Chels.

“Chels do you have enough room back there?” I slide into my seat.

“Absolutely. A lot more space than I expected.”

“Good.” I start the car. “I need directions.” The power as it surges to life is a fucking dream come true. I’ve always heard whatever car a man chooses to drive is a phallic symbol. Works for me. This baby will make any male feel like he has a big dick. Lucky for me, I have no concern over the size of mine.

I enter the information Chels gives me and drive out of the parking lot in the direction of her apartment. We’re all quiet on the drive across town. I wonder what thoughts run through two single women’s minds when they see their closest friend in love and about to walk down the aisle? Sure, they’re happy, but deep down inside, do they wish it was them instead of Morgan? Fuck, I hope not because I’ve decided to welcome Kayla back to Chicago in style.

I drive into the visitor’s parking lot and stop. I unbuckle and help Chels out of the car. She leans down, tells Kayla goodbye, and then waves at me. “Thanks for the ride, Nick.”

“Chels, I’ll be at your place no later than nine in the morning. No, make it ten,” Kayla calls out to her, then turns to me. “Want me to type my address into your navigation system?”

I hide my surprise as best I can. “I heard part of a conversation about you leasing an apartment right down the hall from Chels. I thought you lived here too.”

“Not yet, but if you have somewhere to be, I’ll get Chels to take me home.”

I move my gearshift to reverse. “Not happening. My fault for assuming you’re staying with Chels. You can give me directions or type away.”

“I can direct you. I thought you knew I’m moving tomorrow. Although, I don’t know how you would’ve known. But you know now.” Kayla clamps her mouth shut. “I’m sorry. I tend to ramble on occasion.”

“Rambling is good. It means you’re talking to me.”

“Of course, I am. We’ve reached a peace agreement.”

“True. Does this mean you’ll join me at the club for a drink? It’s Friday night.” I’m trying to convince myself I’m merely intrigued by her beauty, but there’s more, and I can’t figure her out. She’s wrapped an invisible shield around herself to keep the outside world from entering.

“Thanks.” She smiles and my entire body tightens. “I’m not ready to go back to Club Silken.”

“I should’ve been more specific. I meant Club Gloss.”

“That’s where Morgan and Zack met. Chels and I were with her when she lost her billfold.”

“Then you know my club is different than his.” I drive my car forward, getting out of the way of an oncoming car and take a chance she’ll change her mind. “Since you’re familiar with Gloss, I’d like your honest opinion of the women’s restroom remodel.”

“It’s close to closing, isn’t it?”

“We still have a couple of hours.” I wink at her. “I’m friends with the owner.”

Kayla gives me a smile that lights up the inside of my car. “Sure. Why not?”

I don’t give her a chance to rethink her decision. I press my foot on the gas pedal and I get us onto the expressway. Deep in my mind, I see a butterfly on the verge of bursting out of its cocoon. I want to be there went it does.

“How did you, Zack, and Slider decide which club is whose responsibility?”

I relax at her casual question. “Zack put up most of the money, and Slider and I paid him back after all three clubs got on their feet. It was right that Zack decided what type of club we opened first. He said he wanted a members-only club and we agreed.”

“So you each own a third of each club?”

“Yes. And each of us is responsible for running one of the clubs.”

She’s quiet for a few blocks before she surprises me. “Would you rather be responsible for Club Silken?”

I like that
